I really like this new site; it’s a lot better for this than Soundcloud Groups were, in my opinion.

I’ll be posting my track later today!

This track is comprised of a recording of jet noise on a flight from the Netherlands to LA. The drone gives way to the sound of a distant melody. And then returns to a drone.

The drone track was recorded on an iPhone and arranged and mixed in Cubasis on an iPad. The main instrument is a patch in Magellan with some processing added and then run through some big reverb.

There is a video to this track as well:

This track was originally done for One Track Mine, a music and video gathering that myself and a few friends do quarterly. We post music and accompanying videos on YouTube.

This is a “remix” created for the Disquiet Junto Project 0240: Emerging from a Drone and is my first time posting to this group.

Great piece. That transition is a really nice slow creep to the B section.

This is my first Disquiet Junto submission. I read about it this morning and decided quickly to make it before the midnight deadline. This is a great idea! Anyways, process:

I used a leftover patch from practicing and learning specific aspects of my new isms system. I sent that through a bunch of guitar pedals I’m much more familiar with to add space, width and create a drone (delay and reverb of course). This went to Ableton and finished with some EQ and dynamics. Throughout the course of the recording I slowly decreased different attributes of the “wetness” until the raw practice patch revealed itself. It’s like taking my clothes off but with lower stakes. Then I destroyed it with a big kaboom. There is also an op-1 for low end feel goods.

Thanks Marc, much appreciated :+1:

Hello! I was cleaning out my hard drive the other day, and found this piece I recorded a while back (2012) of string music emerging from an AC drone. The final phase of this project was to be completed by a friend who would be making cricket music using a recorder, but that never came together, so here we are. AC -> Music -> Crickets [disquiet0240]

Please enjoy, and let me know what you think. Thanks!

My goal in this was to pull harmony + an easily identifiable, almost head-nodding, beat from an ambient and somewhat tempoless beginning. I chose source instruments built from sampling Buchla synthesizers so they would have an “otherworldly” quality to them (or at least not “off the shelf” synth sounds). Lastly, as is the case with most ambient music, I wanted to keep the instrumentation minimal, but full. There is a little peppering of filter manipulation and some volume automation, but otherwise it was a live manipulation and sequencing.

First, thanks to Marc and the Lines/Monome community for make this thing possible.

For this track I recorded a short, erratic snare roll. I then took one of the first hits and stretched it in paulstretch and drenched it in reverb to create the drone. After that a simple application of fade in and fade out to crossfade between the two for the emerging.

I’ve been thinking about drones lately and am working on a new set inspired by the 50 cycle hum (I’m in iceland currently) and I decided to repurpose some of the material i’ve been working with. I
considered what a drone is, as per the instructions… and interpreted what that might mean sonically… that, at least in the digital world, it’s a series of minute samples which, when dissected and put under a microscope, are just a series of clicks. So, breaking somewhat from the assignment, my piece does not shift imperceptibly as such, but is rather a presentation of various drones and ‘clicks’ that make up music. it also contains some samples of natural drones, specifically, a recording of a waterfall in iceland (both granulated and not), plus a minute section of the recording of a small piece of severed glacier rubbing against another piece in the water.

I also considered the ubiquitous 50 cycle hum and included a loop of me flicking on a light switch.
Some of these sounds will be heard in a performance to be presented and uploaded soon.

I admit it is nice to just hit play on soundcloud and hear everything on the playlist uninterrupted but lines is magically nicer to my mobile devices for comments and replies. Thanks again for your hard work making this happen!

Better late than never – description coming tomorrow but wanted to upload this before bed.

Took some drones from an EMS Synthi and a CS-70 running through an RE-201 that I recorded at the Vintage Synth Museum in Oakland two weeks ago. Piped into Octatrack for additional manipulation and real time control. I like the bit at the end, should have gotten to that much sooner :stuck_out_tongue:

I have been making music primarily on the commandline in the past few months. I started with a public domain 78rpm recording of Beethoven, then slowed it down to molasses and did some fadeout. Technically I broke the rules as it’s not two layers with a drone under an emerging melody. But I felt like the slowed and throwed track seemed to sound like a melody emerges naturally from within, satisfying the spirit of the assignment. I’m pretty happy with this one.

Is there something specific one has to do to get a submission included in the Soundcloud playlist for that project? I just checked out the Playlist for Music that emerges, and I don’t see my track there.
