Hey fellow lines lovers,

I’m pleased to release a new record this year on the wonderful Shimmering Moods. Pre-orders up now.

This album was born out of my passion for photography, in particular Flora/Nature photography and has been a hugely cathartic process for me. I won’t bore you with my mental health struggles but suffice to say anyone who is looking for some relief, I hugely recommend photography in all forms, it has become a huge part of my continued efforts to feel free from my mind. Coupled with creating music it is a recipe for recovery.

Created with Monome Norns, Grid and a cassette machine, mostly using MLRE, Concrete and MX Samples scripts.

Instrumentation:

  • Ibanez Q54 electric guitar
  • Orange Terror Stamp pedal amplifier
  • Ortega Guitarlele

Anyway, I hope this album gives someone some peace, as soon as I receive them I will shoot some free codes over here. Would love to hear whether photography also helps other people…

Sounds very pleasant. Very nice! By the way… How is your workflow? Samples on mlre/concrete, and then the cassette machine? Or samples on a cassette machine, into a norns with mlre/concrete? Thanks

Typically I would record directly into MLRE to build loops, record to the internal tape and then load that into Concrete. I tend to bounce back and forth between the internal tape and those scripts and build upon this in a sound on sound type process. I would then bounce certain tracks and/or mixdowns onto tape from the Norns outputs and then back in, sometimes pitching down and some light processing on the internal norns effects i.e compression, reverb etcetc Hope that helps. This track is gorgeous! Congrats.

Curious if the guitar was a previous recording or played directly into the tape or norns…

You didn’t mention any instruments, which is why I was wondering…

I’ll update the post with instrumentation.

Guitar was tracked directly into the Norns using an ‘Orange Terror Stamp’, then bounced to tape and back in.

There is only one track I believe ‘Astrantia’ that was recorded differently as it was an acoustic guitar. If I remember rightly that was recorded using a tascam DR40X microphones, direct output into Norns.
