I went for the one - can’t believe it’s about 16 years since I got the 40h.
Must make more effort now to use them.

I sold my 256 long ago, but I miss it and can imagine some uses in my newer setups. So I am in for one.

“Good, because we have zero ones.”

Oh no! The zero seems to be out of stock. Did I miss the release being all the way over in Australia?

It appears so. It was still showing in stock until a couple of hours ago, so rest assured it didn’t sell out instantly.

Ah damn, I woke up too late! Looks like it went live around 3am for me so I was well into dream land at that point. Hoping I can get one next release. I’ll have to set an alarm for that one.

i was about to buy one of these when all of a sudden i stumbled onto a one/128 (2021 grid/usb c, which i assume is nearly identical to the one, no?) on craigslist for $400usd. :exploding_head:

also as someone who purchased a 40h way back when monome was just starting out cycling through everything from 256s and 128s; to the joys of squishing a grid of soft LEDs! :beers:

i remember back to the 2015 radical redesign of the grid… issued as a 128. at the time people were asking about a 256 version. and while there was never a “never” given as a response, the vibe i got was that the redesign was such a distillation, such a refinement of the overall ethos, that keeping the flattened, all metal design to a 128 was integral. and if there would ever be a 256 version, that time would be far, far into the future. i guess 8 years is pretty far into the future? its seriously weird to be here now, witnessing the launch of the zero. in many ways its a future i never thought would exist. and yet here we are! and its sold out! i’m so happy so many people either kept their fire burning all these years, or then discovered the zero very recently.

i’m so grateful that monome keeps making new things- for sure they certainly didn’t need to make the zero. but the fact that they did once again inspires me and makes me remember that the world we live in can be cool and that there are true artists out there, putting things into the world that they believe in. and i once again feel lucky to be able to come along for the ride!

That is such a lovely, thoughtful sentiment @instantjuggler , and I simply could not agree more.
I can’t wait for my zero to arrive and begin this new expedition into the future, into past, always suspended in the malleable now.

I had zero intentions of buying a zero a week ago. But I had this week off work after a long, grueling 3 month stretch. Instead of going somewhere (because it is 1000 degrees pretty much everywhere else, too), I locked myself in my studio and learned enough grid ops to build a couple small instruments that are unique to me (thank you for the nudge @dani_derks). It was, hands down, the most fun musical experience I’ve had in a long time. Mostly because I was afraid and doubted my ability to wrap my head around a concept that felt impenetrable for the longest time (of course, as is usually the case, it’s not all that bad once you commit to the work and get started).

Playing an instrument that I made for myself was an entirely new and special experience. It’s hard to describe. But anyway, ordered a zero because I’m looking forward to diving in even deeper, and the expanded canvas is an exciting opportunity.

Cool to hear about you using the grid ops. Was this for a Teletype or other interaction system. I’m realizing grid ops on the VCV version of Teletype could be very cool and useful, as well as learning basic lua or basic max…

Teletype; but yes, the VCV version is really wonderful while learning the ops (and beyond!) because you don’t have to unplug/reply to check your progress! Also serialosc just kind of feels like magic

@mattymattmatt I want to thank you for all of the really terrific videos you’ve put up on your recent epiphanies re: grid ops. I get the sense that you surprised yourself, and that delight comes through 100%. Well done.

I’m 90% in the box now, so the Teletype grid ops are a great idea/way to program bespoke ideas for use in BitWig and VCV Rack.

I’ll check out your videos! It’s exciting to know there are so many options for the less technical.

Anyone else buy 32 of these bad boys to make a 64x128 Norns-resolution Jumbotron?

just a quick heads up in case anyone is buying zero to spin it on their finger… i’d say i give it about a 5 out of 10 stars in that area. but of course i am by no means an official tester and the metrics on this aspect of zero are highly debatable. however, for comparison, a score of 5/10 for zero is still waaaaay better than the previous 128 score of 0.5/10. just thought i’d let everyone know in case they are thinking about getting a zero for spinning on their finger as their main use case:
