New Function is a body of work that focuses on long form, non-changing or minimally-changing sound textures. The idea is that it’s a kind of “work songs for coders” or runners or thinkers etc.

Currently it’s about 4.5 hours of zone-in/zone-out mostly modular (though at least one of them was inspired by @disquiet’s Disquiet Junto and involved home-made reverb on reel-to-reel).

I add new tracks to it several times a year.

Thanks for inspiring some of the pieces in it!

Ribbon extract, Moiré Fire, Gate 14, and 5ummary are all Junto-inspired.

New addition today: NY Snowfall

For my compatriots in gear nerdery:

  1. Subharmonicon, multed with one clean and one sent through the Recovery Effects Shortwave, panned a little bit out from each other, L/R.
  2. 2x Mother-32 (one working with a low pass, the other high pass to create a sort of single oscillator with bandbass) receiving clock from the Subharmonicon and the m32 LFOs unsynced/free running to evolve the sound.
  3. The Shortwaved Subharmonicon mult through Phonogene in Echo mode, then Dave Smith charactor with the Decimate being run from a Euclidean-ation of the Subharmonicon pulse, courtesy Klasmata, then into Erbeverb.

All that in a stereo mix to the DAW. From there, a high pass version of the signal was sent to a pair of Moog 500 Series Delays which were then passed on to the Recovery Endless Summer, the main stereo pair went through a Meris Mercury, everything analog summed and then some light tweaking for mastering etc etc.
