OMGhyperventilatingly stoked: just bought two Just Friends!

…was going to buy one after work, and Perfect Circuit just sent out email with 15% on JFs. Jumped in car forthwith, obtained modules, happiness awaits at home.

The Walk module will have to wait until next week. Had a brainstorm coming in to work: I play drums. Play the synths like drums with my feet. So obvious in retrospect!

Just Type not quite ready to be shown, but the features sound incredible, seems due out very soon. Mystery 2hp (4hp? mind foggy) module in the works, reportedly something you would not expect at that size. And new, miniature -isms case, with three “non-vactrol vactrol” gates, also not quite ready to show.

Trent looks tired, in the best way.

I’m stalking mr gill and just type I’ve not heard of - so is the 2-4hp module “just type” or another thing again?
I’m hoping I can grab this still as the is the only module I don’t have - yet

Would anyone care explaining what this is all about ?

Trent from Whimsical Raps made some obscure comments on Twitter and instead of the corporate game of announcing then everyone waiting while it is released he is creating some excitement for users with what appears to be a module that talks from Just Friends [which is really really fun btw] and TT which is also fun

I am not sure i even understand what is going to happen but i appreciate the fun vibe and sharing about things instead of the constant consumer vibe that most developers take. People are really interested in Whimsical Raps and it’s cool connections with monome of course as am i.

I’ve also been struggling to fully get my head around what’s being discussed - my take on it at the moment is that at least there appears to be the suggestion that TT will be able to take control of JF via I2C commands rather than from the trigger outs - much in the same way the TT can control the other Monome modules…hence the new operators for TT which can be seen in tehn’s github link for TT…also there’s a suggestion of a new WR module…not sure what it will offer but no doubt this will allow I2C control too…whether any of this relates to tehn’s secret thing I’ve no idea…i thought there was some linux element to that…

The possibilities just keep expanding - with the monome/wr modules - isms truly is an ecosystem…I’m really excited!

PS - presume nobody’s tracked down any video of the synth meet where some of this was revealed - what was the name of the synth meet btw?

Thanks for the insights.
One thing for sure : we need some solution to connect all these buddies inside the case. For now, i failed connecting TT to Ansible+WW+MP due to the physical arrangement and length of the connectors.

Wow all sounds very intriguing… Very interested to hear more about the new case

me too.
i guess a longer connecting cable, or with more spacing with headers wvould work. but neither shipped with that…

My bet: a 4U case sized no larger than necessary to accommodate one complete set of Mannequins and Monome modules (complete set as defined by the makers), with built in bus ports to accommodate interconnecting, and 1U utilities a la -isms. Possible new 2hp or 4hp module to extend or supplant an existing module.

I just hope I don’t terribly wish I didn’t just buy two Just Friends in one fell swoop.

Oh well. Legacies!

EDIT: and all the code to back it all up.

Tehn has mentioned an I2C bus board is in the pipeline to address just that problem.
