I had them all in a chair in a bunch. So the 3 power bricks were right next to the power strip. I also had the power wires tied together to keep it ‘neat’.

I just moved the power strip to the ground and untied the wires. The power bricks are just near each other not stack on each other.

I bought a second hand White Whale for my new grid. It’s running Kria, which I like, but it doesn’t react to external Clock. On the Kria Github page I saw that external Clock wasn’t supported in the first release 0.3, but was added with 0.4. So I think I have to update Kria to 0.4?

I followed the instructions on this page and used homebrew to install dfu-programmer, but now I don’t know what I need for the actual firmware: only the kria 0.4.zip or the kria master file? Sorry, I don’t know anything about GitHub.

I’m a little confused, some places it’s stressed that grid has to be powered by itself, other places it’s suggested that it can be plugged directly in the teletype. A friend might bring his grid to a meetup tomorrow, and I would like to know if it’s OK to plug it directly into my teletype. Will this damage anything? What’s the worst that can happen? How exactly do we go about “powering the grid by itself”?

the worst that could happen is either (1) grid tries to take more power than Teletype is prepared to give, causing Teletype to shut down or (2) grid pushes your power supply harder than it wants to go and your case acts funny or doesn’t work.

Both of these should be fixed by unplugging the grid and power cycling, but since it’s Eurorack I cannot promise that there isn’t some corner case where more serious problems could occur.

by “powering the grid by itself” we mean using some sort of USB power splitter so that the grids data is connected to Teletype, but it’s drawing current from its own outlet.

Ok, thanks!

Any idea what’s the norm, are most people powering from TT or externally?

I’m powering the Grid externally just to be on the safe side (the big and bold warnings on the Grid Ops thread really stuck with me). I went with the recommendation starting on post 28 of this thread- it was very simple, cheap, and took about three minutes.

I’m powering the grid externally via a battery power pack, appox £10 via the net - it’s been running for weeks without recharge, easy to set up.

Piggybacking - does it matter what kind of wall adapter you use to power grid? Would any cellphone type adapter do?

I’m using a cheapo generic one and haven’t had any issues.

It also depends on what version of the Teletype you’re using (perhaps I missed which version you have earlier). The new revision now handles powering the grid without any external power.

Most people are not powering from TT as only the latest batch can handle it due to a small hardware redesign. Furthermore, @tehn has said that while the new TT can handle it, depending on your config, it may introduce noise. I would not plug directly into your friend’s teletype unless they just bought it in the newest batch directly from monomer and it has a black pcb.

Eurorack can be odd when it comes to power, so isolating the grid from the modular power supply is a good way to remove ground noise introduced.

My TT is brand new with black PCB :smirk:

Is it possible in Kria (on White Whale) to copy patterns – like the content of pattern 1 to pattern 2? I searched the forum, but the only post on this topic I found was the same question, asked years ago, but it was never answered. I tried the obvious things like holding the button of the destionation pattern or holding source and destination simultaneously, but that didn’t work.

I believe saving a pattern is just a long-press on one of the pattern buttons to save the current parameters. So I’m pretty sure you can load pattern 1, for example, then long-press on pattern 2 and the same contents will be saved to pattern 2.

Thanks, that was the first thing I tried, but that doesn’t work. Did that work for you on White Whale Kria? (I think I have V. 0.3 installed because it doesn’t sync to Clock input.) Any other ideas?

I’ll received an Ansible today, so I’ll check if it works there…

Okay, I just checked: long button press to copy a pattern works on Kria Ansible, but not on Kria White Whale. If anybody know if/how it works on Kria White Whale, please let me know. Thanks!

Hi,
Does anybody have a playlist of Spotify-releases of music made with Monome-devices? Or any links to suggested listening? I’m not afraid to do some more googling on my own, but I’m hoping at least I’m asking in the right place? Thanks/total noob

Hi, I have just jumped into the wonderful world of Monome with a Grids and Arc. Awaiting the release of Ansible to I can connect it to my modular but for now I will be using Ableton. Any tips of places to go for a newby? Thanks

hello!
if you are looking for music made with monome devices, i recommend just browsing the releases category and searching through some threads here on lines. not all of the things made and shared here are strictly monome, but a lot of them are!

besides that, there is the lines spotify playlist with tracks made by people here in the community. also, if you are just looking for things to listen to, this thread always has the best recommendations.
