Quick question regarding ansible/ARC…

When in Cycles mode, are the “offset” and “range” functions available as they are in Levels mode? i.e. can I offset and attenuate the voltage created by my triangle/saw waves from ansible/arc while remaining in Cycles mode?

thats what I thought too. But, when I’m in Cycles and go through the same config steps as described for Levels, I get what seem to be 2 more “pages” of options…I think one of themacts like an attenuator, but not sure what the other one does. Would be neat to have that capability on Cycles to IMHO. Maybe I’ll pop over to the beta ansible firmware disc…

There is definitely an attenuation page. I don’t think you can add offset, but I am not able to test at the moment.

I don’t think so. I still use all the early monome modules. Ansible can wear many hats, but only has one head so to speak.

Is there an app for Ansible that would turn it into a basic keyboard when Grids is attached? So you could use your Grides to play your modular?

You can also use regular Earthsea on Ansible 2.0.0 to patch gate/CV to whichever modules you like. Polyphonic Earthsea has more advanced capabilities and is particularly suited for controlling I2C-capable modules (Just Friends, TELEXo, ER-301) as voices, but is a separate firmware that you would have to reflash onto Ansible. I have experimental support (posted as a beta build here) for adding I2C leader support to Ansible, so you could use Kria, Meadowphysics, or Earthsea to play TXo or ER-301 (JF still needs some work).

You may also be interested in using the Grid with a computer as a Linnstrument-style isomorphic keyboard that talks to a DAW via this program.

Random newbie modular question here:

Planning out a modular setup right now, and i’m interesting in running a white whale alongside an ansible. I’m going to be getting the make noise bus case which has 1A of 5V power. I don’t have anything else planned that would pull 5V power. Looks like white whale pulls 42mA of 5V power.

Is it safe for me to assume that i’m ok here, and won’t require a switch? Very new to modular so I don’t want to make any assumptions.

Edit: looks like the pull is 600mA with a grid - Still should be enough to power it, right?

As long as this is all that’s on your 5V I think you should be fine, though some users have still had issues with electrical noise from the grid coupling into their euro supply. Since Switch is discontinued I believe the recommended solution at this point is to use this “ground loop adapter” cable and a >= 1A USB power supply to power the grid, which is a pretty inexpensive option for peace of mind.

Depending on the version of the board, I would advise caution. I’ve blown the earlier version of the Make Noise busboard with WW and a 128 grid. I’d definitely recommend powering the grid by other means.

Yikes. thats good to know. Thinking about going to the Intellijel Performance case instead to get some more 5V power. Either way, think i’ll power it externally because i definitely don’t want to fry the board.

Just checked my email correspondence with MN at the time. The older board only supplied 250mA on the 5V rail, so hardly surprising that I toasted it! But as others have mentioned the other downside of powering the grid that way is the addition of noise.

Confusing myself doing research about Ansible…

Can someone tell me if Ansible is able to run without a grid plugged in like white whale and teletype can?
