I finally getting into my ansible.
I’ve been looking around but I can’t seem to find anything.
Is there a Euclidean rhythm generator for arc and ansible?.

I totally love the teletype, hardly code it live, but the amount of variation, rhythms, generative melodies or rigid playback you can get from it is simply amazing. I do quite traditional song-structure-like music compared to the average modular user.

Is there a way to reset the ansible to default settings? I’ve set something and I am only getting six steps and I’m not sure how to reset or if there is one

Which app are you using?

It’s the Kria one (step sequencer)

Apologies if you have already tried this, but have you tried the loop parameter, and then setting sequence length by holding your first step and last step?

@shreeswifty make sure to check out the docs  kria is awesome and very deep!

Yes I did that like a zillion times and finally it took I don’t know what goes wrong sometimes but (probably mostly me forgetting operations) but I know that combo for sure

A couple things come to mind:

  • I usually keep my last preset slot blank, so I can just reload that slot to get the default app state.
  • For a real “factory reset”, you could reflash the firmware.
  • This option requires firmware version >= 2.0.0, but you could keep a USB drive that contains an Ansible backup file representing the default settings, and load that to reset. I’m happy to provide such a file if that’s useful to people, or you can create your own by doing a disk backup right after reflashing the firmware. One possible advantage of this over just reflashing is that you can reset only the currently active app by holding the button next to the USB port as you insert the disk.

Not sure this is the best place to post this, so please move if I’ve missed a more obvious thread.

This is my current Monome/Mannequins rig:

It’s pretty much all brand new to me, and outside of the studies, I haven’t really dived into the Teletype. I feel like I am running out of modulation options when using JF as an oscillator. I like to use Ansible to sequence the Mangroves and norns/crow to sequence JF via ii. I am thinking I could use the additional 2 tr outs from Ansible into the Teletype to fire off modulation (or use JF internal metro), but am at a loss where to start. I think once I have things (gates/envelopes/lfos) going out of the Teletype, I can utilize some outs to bring the Cold Mac into play. Is this a valid use case for Teletype and if so, can someone point me to some sample scripts? Thanks!

you could always have crow run some lfo’s while i2c’ing JF!

Hmmm that’s a good one! So like have the default crow script doing that so as not to have a computer attached?

Yep! I was doing something similar a couple days ago. Norns sequencing JF via crow, while crow also ran a script to flip w/ play direction when receiving a trig on input 1.

OK that’s awesome, I hadn’t thought about that. Any suggestions on using the TT for modulation as well?

well, you have cv outs and slew  so making some smooth random cv should be pretty simple. my TT isn’t racked right now, so I can’t really give any script examples.

You can also turn coarse frequency on a Mangrove all the way CCW to use it as an LFO, using the fine tune to adjust the frequency. Modulating Survey on Cold Mac with no other inputs patched is a nice way to get several related modulation sources from one.

With Teletype you can generate various kinds of linear-ramp envelopes and LFOs by making use of CV.SLEW. For example, suppose you have set CV.SLEW 1 250 so that the first CV output will ramp from the current value to the next value over 250 ms. Then in script 1:

CV 1 V 5
DEL 250: CV 1 0

This will give you an attack/decay envelope when you trigger script 1. You can add:

DEL 500: TR.P 1

to also have an end of cycle trigger, which you can then patch back to the script 1 input. Then press F1 to manually trigger the script, starting a triangle LFO from CV output 1.

I’m writing this away from my modular so I apologize if this takes some tweaking, just sort of a general technique.

So it is possible to sequence jf via Norns on i2c and also have a script going on crow! Are there any special considerations to make this happen?

None that I know of. Whatever script is loaded on crow will just keep on playing

I am a Maxforlive user in Ableton but I have seen and heard so many beautiful pieces recently with Just Friends and Three Sisters. I am considering putting together a very small system just of Mannequins and Monome for this purpose controlled from Ableton.

I have a few questions that I was wondering about.

  1. If I use cv/gate from Ableton, what else do I need apart from Just Friends and Three Sisters? What other modules would you advise? At this point I will be honest and admit that I don’t really understand Cold Mac.

  2. What benefits do I get from a Crow that I don’t get from a simple midi to cv converter?

Thanks
