So, using those tools, I can send cv and clock data into Eurorack from Ableton?

Can I do that at the same time as i2c link up with Just Friends?

Yes.

I also highly recommend the following threads:

happy reading and enjoy your crow.

CM is a deep creature, I’m still not sure I fully understand it, but it’s fun and definitely worth having in a Mannequins/monome ecosystem… The more time you spend with it the better you will understand it…

Cool…lots to think about…this would fit the new 4ms 34x pod perfectly.

So where in Europe currently sell Crow?

If you can go a bit larger, you might really enjoy adding an Ansible and Grid!

A grid would smash my budget plus I like sequencing in Ableton.

This wont fit in a pod. The crow is to deep for it.

Apparently the 34x is deeper (51mm)

Haven’t looked into crow much at this point, but this has totally increased my interest. Is it possible to use Crow with ableton’s CV tools?

cant say for sure
thats ableton 10 specific, right?

Correct - looks like it won’t work directly, but it looks like M4L devices have been created for similar purposes with crow. Mostly would rather have a couple crows in my rack rather than an es-8, but i don’t know if I could pull it off.

i have two

it’s worth it (especially if you’re workflow is built around max and/or ableton)

@LazyCircuits

I’d recommend saving your $$ and leave cold mac out of the starter block
Make no mistake, I love the module. It’s shockingly useful and reveals new facets in almost any patch if you dig deep

However, if your main tool already has complex mixing and utility functions i’d say just start with crow and justfriends

Expand to include 3 sisters when you have more cash

Then depending on your style I’d suggest w/ or cold mac for a powerful but compact system

out the box, these are all about audio signals at control rates – they work beautifully with DC-coupled audio interfaces, but crow is rooted in converting data into control.

this difference allows for really idiosyncratic expressions – the artist can script their own envelope shapes, evolving behaviors, sequencing paradigms, etc etc. but also, this means that you can just plop the [^^dual] or [^^jf] or [^^outs] after any existing M4L sequencer (edit: or any MIDI generator in Live) and instantly translate the MIDI to CV or i2c. there’s a crow update in the queue that opens up some new (gorgeous) CV envelope shapes, which will make their way into the [^^dual] and [^^outs] devices.

if there’s anything the CV tools do that you’d like a crow M4L device for, please let the community know! it’s pretty straightforward to roll up a crow M4L device or extend an existing device to speak to crow

So where can I buy a Crow in Europe?

monome.org ships direct to europe!

Awesome! Thanks Dan. This just jumped to the top of my “to-buy” list.

One last question:

Does this have to be a M4L sequencer, or could it be a regular midi sequence on a midi track?

Edit: Nevermind - just watched your video on it and answered my questions!

I recently purchased a Norns and Grid. Wondering if I absolutely have to have Ansible in order to integrate Norns into my Eurorack, or if I can use USB / Midi to my Hermod and deliver midi to CV that way. Wasn’t sure about the crossover between the two, or if you absolutely have to use the Ansible in order to transfer anything from Norns to CV. Hopefully that is clear.
Thanks!

hi joey!

norns can speak to most any class-compliant USB MIDI device. looks like Hermod can be put into a “device” mode where it translates MIDI-to-CV from a USB host, so it sounds like it’d do the trick. let us know if things get weird once you get 'em all connected.

if it helps down the line, the best “monome ecosystem” way to integrate norns into eurorack is actually through crow

Great! My norns and grid are on their way so I have to wait and see if it works. And thankfully I do have crow already so that will be fun to explore as well! Thank you.

I use norns with hermod no problem.
