there are none. its fine to pull master from we. i would hope that script authors would always keep their master branch nice and clean.

if you must be on the bleeding edge of norns, be prepared to recompile. (master should always be buildable with a single call to ./waf. we aim to avoid other long-lived development branches; currently there is one just b/c various links point at it.)

norns-image is not something you should pull unless you want to contribute to linux / kernel configuration - wait for updates.

Pretty much only the stuff in ~/dust/code, but only do so if you know how git works/can fix it yourself if it breaks.

This may not be the place for this but… I am a git newbie. Is there a tutorial or explanation that would help me understand how to use git to update my norns? From what I’m able to interpret it sounds as though I can update scripts on my norns without manually downloading the scripts, unzipping them and then manually copying them to the appropriate directory.

Feel free to point me to a git tutorial but I’d be thrilled if somehow I could understand how you all are using it in this context.

Thank you!

you have to know how to ssh in to norns (if you don’t already know there are directions somewhere). however once you figure that out it’s dead easy:

cd dust/code/
git clone [github link]

i found this link helpful for no frills git syntax:

http://rogerdudler.github.io/git-guide/

mostly only needed for if you decide to start writing it though

Good to know, thanks. So, is git only needed if I’m developing scripts of my own? Is it not a way for adding updated scripts to my norns?

I am familiar with terminal as I use it in my work occasionally. Thanks for the pointer!

the key word is needed. I think the end goal is to never force a user to get more involved with the Terminal than they’d like to be

can norns read standard midi files in its current incarnation?

dreaming of a sort of jukebox-ish script that can load a playlist of midi files and perform them through internal engines or external devices.

not as such. I started down this road and got a bit sidetracked (as it’s not exactly trivial).

Ok - right I seem to have been suffering from very odd things happening in the browser. A switch to firefox sorted things out and counter:stop(0 working fine as expected. Thanks tehn for offer of help.

Ok I think I’ve try everything already but still cannot update to 2.0

I know some people experienced it before but I don’t really know where is the problem. Everythime I try System/Update I have a message ā€œno updates foundā€ on USB Stick formatted to FAT and with 190405.tgz file on it. Any help would be very appreciated.

Thanks!

Have you tried a different USB port? Have you tried powering up with the stick already in/out? have you renamed the file?

You probably need to do the serial (usb com to micro usb Norns) connection method

Yes I’ve tried all the ports and powering up with the stick, but it didn’t help unfortunately

Are you downloading with safari? Try control+clicking on the web page and ā€œSave asā€¦ā€ so it doesn’t unpack it automatically. The file should be called nornsXXXXXX.tgz IIRC

OMG that’s it… it was Safari unpacking automatically the folder, everything works now!

Thanks so much for help!

Updated to 2.0.0 a couple of days ago finally.
:stuck_out_tongue:
Got the ERROR: AUDIO ENGINE but…I saw there was a ā€œresetā€ function so I hit that and the error message went away.
It’s been working since then…not sure if I need to dig in and remove any offending code since the error has not returned.

Arc…
So I have an Arc that I bought just for this Norns update.
I couldn’t get it to work at first.
Then I discovered…it HAS to be in USB port 1.
Once it was on port 1 it fired up and got to work.
Also discovered how to crash it…if you plug in the Grid into port 2 while using ASH/ANGL it locks EVERYTHING up!
Had to do a hard reset after this…looks neat though.

Do you mean in the menu or plugged into the physical USB port closest to the audio inputs?

Port 1 is closest to the miniUSB power connection.
And…I have it also in the system/devices/arc menu item 1.

Sure. Here’s a screenshot after doing a ;restart in sc:
