My question was concerning engine’s supporting libraries, not the engines. Only questioning as I’m seeing multiple different methods being used in the scripts that have been posted recently. Seems like there could be a best case… I’ll figure it out. Thanks.

ah, you could certainly create your own version of the engine lib.

i was previously embedding all of the engine param setup into init() on my own scripts, so not even using a lib.

Thanks Dan, sorry for the delay in replying but I was travelling to Florence where I will play a full-on less concepts gig tomorrow
I’ve just tried the new version and it works as it did yesterday! yay!
Thank you! Combined with Passersby (@markeats, it’s so awesome, I probably said it before) it’s my favorite jamming platform right now.

regarding a full disk reset…

Will this be the case for 2.0 proper? Will I have to borrow someone else’s laptop to upgrade to cm3+?

So is 2.0 out yet? Where and how will we know when it’s released. Thx!

almost done. wrapping up docs. testing. there will be a new thread announcing.

@AlessandroBonino Did you restart your norns after installing gemini and easygrain? They come with new engines, so norns won’t identify them until after a reboot

I personally have only had success under macOS 10.14. Prior to that I was using a Linux VM running under VMWare Fusion on a macOS 10.13 to flash.

I’ve had success with both CM3 and CM3+ with the latest rpiboot and 10.14…

UPDATE: I should probably add that my past failures (pre-Mojave) as well as recent success (running Mojave) were using a 2013 trashcan Mac Pro which I’ve found to have rather janky USB ports in general (it was early in the USB 3.0 adoption).

Thanks… bummer. Time to borrow somebody’s newer MacBook, whenever 2.0 image is made available. Any volunteers? Haha

edit: What could be the harm in giving it a shot on 10.12? @ngwese

I don’t think there is any harm in trying it w/ 10.12. If I had to guess the most critical piece may just be building the latest version of rpiboot.

Not sure if it’s my pathing issues or otherwise, but I wasn’t able to screen in to Norns while I was using fish shell in iTerm. Switching to Bash worked fine

also— you can do the flashing process with a normal RPi if you have one around. or any linux computer.

i flash everything with an RPi and it’s weirdly faster than a macbook.

Upgrading with the old image 90314 and a CM3+. Instructions from “full disk reset” works as expected, with some unusually side effects for hardware. Upgrading to latest tarball via serial works as expected. Process took about 2 hours from unscrewing the panel to getting the new Step startup sequencer to play sounds with all screws back in their place. I like the default pattern is a dorian mode this time

weird stuff

Wifi is not enabled on boot. USB nubbin has blue light illuminated, menu says STATUS: unavailable. Connect and add menus are blank. Hostpot menu does nothing. After two reboots it fixes itself. Between reboots, crone crashed the first time and fixed itself the second.

Very excited for this release. Congratulations (and thank you) to everyone involved!

My Norns updated successfully (kinda), but now it’s only loading with an error message that reads, “NONE (error: AUDIO ENGINE)” on the main menu. When I attempt to select any script, it freezes on the “loading…” screen and I have to back out. Wifi and network connections are unavailable. I tried several resets and lit some candles and recited some incantations that I found on another forum. No dice.

As you can probably see, I’m not so good with this troubleshooting stuff. Anyone have any ideas? Please let me know if I should be posting this in the help thread instead.

You have a duplicate engine. Look into maiden while trying to load a script and you should easily be able to identify the culprit.

I’m still not able to connect to Maiden because Norns has connection issues. On the wifi page it says, STATUS: unavailable
NETWORK:
IP:

Both Network and IP are empty, and the Hotspot and Connect buttons below do nothing when I choose them.

Sorry if this is banal, but does going near your WiFi router and pressing ADD display your home network?

Nope, just says “none”.

To be clear, I’m using the newest 2.0 firmware, not the beta. Was never on the beta. Realized I should have posted this original issue in the regular Norns 2.0 release thread. I apologize for being too hyper with my hyperlinks.

Sometimes it does that. Hard reset. Not software. As long as your WiFi login/pass was saved, it’ll immediately auto connect.

At least mine does. Good luck.

I had to reboot twice for the wifi to work. It’s basically magic.
