Im have some issues with the installation commands bit for a CM3+ install
I am on Mojave 10.14.4

i have installed the following on by mac :

  • install homebrew - done
  • get rpi boot util - done
  • build rpi boot util - done

now I’m stuck on this :

ok let’s update

get newest norns image (i’ve already downloaded it to my computer)

replace url with newest image

wget https://monome.nyc3.digitaloceanspaces.com/norns181008.img.zip

why do wget the image file when i already downloaded it on my computer?
the img file i downloaded is norns190405.tgz

i run the following wget like this :

wget https://monome.nyc3.digitaloceanspaces.com/norns190405.tgz

i get the following

wget: command not found

also nowhere does it say image file - ie .IMG - are you supposed to expand the tgz file manually? If so, at what point in the procedure?

I hit the exact same issues…

wget isn’t on macos by default, so first:

brew install wget

if you have the .tgz image file already, you can just move it to your root folder (or you’re newly created usbboot folder, if you prefer). just make sure it’s unpacked where you’ll be running the transfer command

then unpack the .tgz file to get the .img

tar xzvf norns190405.tgz

wget didn’t exist even after i installed homebrew.

exact same issues I had… Also while updating you do not get any visual display, so the instructions here to get some kind of info helped to see everything is on track:


“if you want to see progress (it will take a while!), type ctrl+t to send a SIGINFO command which will cause dd to dump status; (…)”

Last but not least to expand the usage of the CM3+
“Connect Norns to the internet.
Note your Norns ip address.
On your computer, I assume it’s a mac, open a terminal.
Type ssh we@(your norns ip address)
The password will be sleep .
You should now be connected to Norns!
run sudo raspi-config etc…”

Also, not sure if the haven script is already updated but it was causing issues not only for me due to duplicate engines. Might be solved though through a PR already.

In terms of physically opening the norns, does anyone know offhand the nut size for the encoders?

I have 10mm (too big) and 8mm (too small) sockets which don’t work, so I’m wondering if it’s 9mm, or perhaps imperial.

It’s not 9mm :wink:
[edit] It’s between 9 and 10mm, 9mm was too small.
Probably imperial but I don’t have any of those so can’t try.

Would that make it 3/8" then?

9mm would equal 23/64", which is pretty ridiculous, whereas 1/64" more would make it 3/8"

I actually don’t own any socket wrenches, so I just have some 3d printed ones I made a while back for guitar/pedal purposes. So I was thinking of just printing out what I needed, but wanted to figure out what size that would be.

My guess is it’s 3/8". Good idea to print something :bulb: , I’ll do that :slight_smile:

I use a 10mm.

keep in mind the outer barrel of the socket might be too big. i must have a particularly narrow one.

I used a 10mm socket. Worked great.

2.0 Image flashed to a cm3+ with no issues.

Just to confirm the image file should be this .image 3.91GB file
and can I have it in my internal drive, or do I put it in a thumb drive connected to norns, Sorry for the simple question but I am still new to all this03%20AM|690x83

It was 10mm after all, thank you @tehn!
The 10mm socket I used was a bit old and loose, that’s why it seemed like the nut was smaller :stuck_out_tongue:

Finally got it installed and all working! Thanks for the help everyone.

And yeah, 10mm was it. It seems like my print had a bit of slop, so it was tricky to unscrew it, but much easier to screw it back in.

My image file is 3.91gb expanded. I believe for the first time clean install, it goes in the root folder of your computer. This is because on first install of CM3+ the standard usb sockets on Norns are not recognised. So you connect to the computer using the same power lead and use the mini usb power hub socket on Norns to the USB socket on your computer.

almost there where do I put the image file?
root directory on mac don’t know, I have it on the desktop
keep getting
