If you are running through a mixer, don’t make the mistake I made. Check to make sure your channel trim/gain levels are not too high. I set mine back to the defaults and norns is producing nothing but happy sounds now.

Thanks, right now I’m just running direct out to headphones from the headphone out on Norns

Test with/without reverb. Reverb adds a lot of drain on things. Could be a cause.

Thanks, just powered cycled Norns and that seems to make it happy. Yeah, reverb adds a lot of noise, I probably won’t use it much once I’m using Norns with the rest of my gear but its a nice-to-have when playing it standalone.

With the next firmware you’ll be able to use 15sec reverb with no impact on the processor. I love it

Hey
has someone tried to connect a arturia beatstep pro to norns?
I was using the hello_gong script and wanted to control some parameters via Midi cc. Since there some settings for midi cc, I thought this could work.
But i did not manage to get it right. I set the timre cc for example to 10. when i look on my devices control center cc #10 would be the knob number 1.
So … it did not work…
does someone have a tip for me?

Have you tried using midi learn?
From the parameters page press button 1 to access the load/save/assign cc page, put cc assign to on, then scroll to the parameter you want to assign and press button 3 and move the knob on the controller, and it gets assigned automatically.

Thanks for the answer.
it did not work over the USB out of the Beatstep.
Finally I used the Midi Out with an adapter to USB and this worked.

thanks for the help

possible known issue when device has multiple ports

would be helpful to confirm beatstep pro port complement

@Justmat is it possible to increase the sample time in strides?

Not directly from the strides code. Strides uses the Ack sampling engine, coded by @jah, and I am pretty sure those types of changes would need to be made there. What are you hoping to accomplish? There are a few other sample based engines that might better suited your needs

Has anyone got a version of Glut updated for 2.0? I’m getting a metro related error when trying to run the version from master

Was attempting this yesterday, I think the issue lies with ‘gridbuf.lua’. Maybe @artfwo could help out.

I just gave it a look and it looks like the grid refresh rate is too high (or it is for my DIY grid and it was throwing libmonome errors).

Along with updating to 2.0 syntax, I changed line 287 to 20 fps and it seems to be working
metro_grid_refresh = metro.init(function(stage) grid_refresh() end, 1 / 20)

I’ve got the updated version here: https://github.com/artfwo/glut

This got mentioned in the 2.0 Beta thread, but if you install glut from @artfwo’s link above (copying the entire glut repo) with 2.0 beta, then you may end up with 2 copies of the Glut engine and it will cause errors.

(Engine_Glut.sc is included in the 2.0 community we repo)

…longer samples (3-4sec)

The problem isn’t the sample time, I have no issues loading longer >1min files. (you can use the start pos param move through the entire file.) The problem seems to be that the envelope release wont go longer than 3000ms. This seems fixable. I will look into it today.

edit: So, this seems like a pretty easy change, a few lines in ack.lua and Engine_Ack.sc. Unfortunately, none of this code is mine. I wonder if @jah is open to extending the volume release time a bit?

That’s fine. Let’s own Ack together. I’d suggest, however, to take a look at @audionerd’s ADSR suggestion https://github.com/monome/dust/issues/288 rather than extending the release time of the AR.

(As mentioned in the issue I’m working on a polyphonic Ack engine that has ADSR envelopes, but lately my norns time has been spent on testing 2.0 and updating my scripts to 2.0)

Ack is in the we repo now so please send your PRs there.
