Hello! This is all very amazing. Thank you to everyone who contributed, for your dedication and for helping to create these brilliant instruments/tools of joy. They have been quite intuitive and fun to play with! Wondering if someone can please help me to get Meadowphysics working with the current 2.0 release? I suppose that I had it partially working yesterday, after struggling with where to place everything. I created a couple of folders along the way using Cyberduck… but it seems to have caused an audio related issue. Norns went silent.

To clarify; I never had audio working with Meadowphysics, and this was the first time that I’d attempted. I checked the parameters page of Meadowphysics to be sure that audio was enabled. Still nothing, so I proceeded to try Awake and a few other scripts… I noticed that I no longer had audio output no matter what I tried, reset, sleep, panic. So, again… I manually installed the latest available 2.0 (using MacOS Mojave’s terminal), and now I have audio again and things seem Normal.

Not quite sure what I am doing yet, but I would love to try Meadowphysics out! First post. :smiley:

stupid noob question but is it possible and/or how do you save a preset? I found moly and the west coast synth rather nice but can’t seem to be able to save any presets

You hold down button K1 and keep it held down while your navigate the presets screen. dont press load instead of save as you will loose it.

Hi Everyone- just got a new Norns and am loving it, but unfortunately I’m hearing something loose inside, which I think isn’t normal. I’d like to figure out what is making the noise- it kind of sounds like something hard shuffling inside. It is definitely not a loose screw- something larger that is making an almost scraping and thumping sound. Does anyone else have this issue? I travel a lot and want to make sure everything is secure inside so nothing gets ruined in transit. Everything seems to be working fine with the unit aside from this strange noise inside the box. Has anyone here opened up their Norns, and if so, any tips to getting it apart? I have the back cover off right now, but am unsure if I can get the PCB out or not. Thanks for any help!

You have to remove the encoder caps and then unscrew the encoders from the top with long pliers. Then you have to remove the screws on the sides of the pcb and it’s done.

…it was the battery sliding around inside. I moved it so it was square under the bracket, reassembled, and now everything seems okay. Thanks again for your help!

that must’ve really gotten jostled during shipping. some batteries have a looser fit, and if it seems loose again I might add a bit of gaffers tape to secure it.

Hello, new Norns noob here. Just got it (second owner, purchased off Reverb.com). So far things seem ok and I’m getting my head around it fairly quick.

But…I’m getting no audio signal INPUT via the right main input. The Left works fine. Both outputs work fine. But right input jack… no signal. Of course I’ve changed out cables to no avail. I’ve reset/hard reset. I’m running the latest 2.0 update. Audio settings are all correct, levels up, set to stereo. I even opened her up to check the jack. Looks fine. Connection looks fine.

Any ideas?

the first thing I did when I got it was to update to 2.0. So I can’t say for sure if it worked before on older firmware. Could the update have messed me up? I’m open to suggestions please!

Even w mono input the thing is ultra cool. But I want my stereo inputs!

Does this affect any particular scripts? Do you hear the input signal and see it on the monitor screen? I had this issue in MLR where it wasn’t recording the right side, but pulling a newer version fixed it after Brian did a bug fix.

No…its this way on all the scripts that I’ve tried. You can see the LEFT input on the monitor screen, but no input on the Right side. You can see the RIGHT meter sitting at zero…with no jiggle or even micro-signal registering. I hear the LEFT, don’t hear the RIGHT.

and/or… the person you bought it from? for whom it was presumably working when they received it from monome?

but also, i suppose if you are comfortable with the command line, it’s worth checking the soundcard at a lower level using arecord. though this really does sound like a hardware problem.

when you say “connection looks ok,” do you mean you traced the whole signal path from the jack to the codec?

No, by “connection looks ok” just means that the solder joints onto the PCB look good, and the physical connections in the jack piece are functioning correctly. I didn’t run any software trace (honestly don’t how to do that). I went ahead and sent a message to info@monome.org. The original seller has no clue what the problem is. He dumped it after just a few hours of use, because it was too complicated for him. So he’s not a good resource for help. I might push for a refund…but its probably easier to just get it fixed, than wait/try-to-find a new one.

Forgive me (in advance) for tossing out a few n00b norns questions. I recognize that this might not be the right forum for doing so.

Do components of the norns installation get updated in between the norns updates? If so what is the recommended method for updating those? Does a git pull accomplish this or should I be manually downloading zip files from gitlab and then updating them through maiden?

talking about the actual norns software— just wait for norns updates. 2.0 has an auto-fetch installer from the menu. it’s going to be so painless (once there is one available)

regarding individual scripts, you have to manage these yourself. SFTP is the suggested route, delete and replace script folders.

if you want to get into git, you can, and there’s been copious help posted here about that— but also command-line isn’t for everyone and don’t feel obligated.

we’re working on some friendlier library updating mechanisms as well.

Pressing key 1 to switch between the list of scripts and the currently loaded script causes the audio output to drop-out for a split second. This began to occur ever since I added more scripts. Is that a known issue with 2.0?
