that makes sense. LOL

ok more issue spamming:

I’m getting a lot of errors trying to just boot up here. Occasionally I’ll start the machine and everythings fine, then today I start and none of the K buttons respond - so a hard reset - then wifi isnt working - sleep cycle - grid and arc not responding - audio reset and sleep cycle - try changing usb input jacks - nothing - issues continue.

this has happened two or three times now

Should I do a fresh install?

hey connor, sorry to hear about the troubles

are you running a “factory” norns, a norns shield, or fates? that always helps with sorting starting points for support.

a fresh install might help, but there might be other things depending on your config. are you also seeing anything weird in maiden (when you are able to connect to wifi)?

FWIW - there was a curious report about Mangl earlier that also mentioned the buttons becoming inactive.

Possible that Mangl mangled a global or something and that was still throwing an error when trying the softcut study?

But yeah, otherwise, why is there a Mangl error when running the softcut study?

ok…
now my USB problem is really being persistent.
:frowning:
every day when i start up norns it will not see any USB connections.
all USB connected devices are dead.

today i tried rebooting from sleep and then a restart.

when i pushed the button on the bottom to kill norns and then started it up again it finally saw the USB devices.

anyone have a clue to what is going on?

thank you for any help!

usb hub chip might need a reflow. I can do an electrical debug if you email help@monome.org

You have tried to use a powered USB hub?

haven’t tried that.
i’ll give it a go.
thanks for the suggestion!

that said, the USB ports should work! keep me posted, I can do a repair.

This advice was a lifesaver. Currently without laptop was able to ssh to norms on a 2012 nexus tablet. If you press button 2 on the norms main screen it will display status items including IP address. Ssh to we@xx.xx.xx.xxx I was able to do this with termux and dropbear

Hey everyone, I’ve been delving into some droney depths lately and just wondered what scripts people are using to create drones with their Norns.

I’ve found the new wrms script provides some great results when fed through effects pedals.

Check out this softcut study, it doesn’t take much tweaking from the original starting point to get into really interesting droney spaces!

I have a Logidy midi pedal that doesn’t seem to want to connect. I get this in REPL:

“ALSA lib rawmidi_hw.c:233:(snd_rawmidi_hw_open) open /dev/snd/midiC1D0 failed: No such device
failed to open alsa device hw:1,0,0
dev_list_add: error allocating device data”

any ideas?

Specs say it’s a “ USB 2.0 compliant composite device“ with midi and HID. This might be wrenching up device recognition

Checking dmesg over ssh after you attach the device might give a little more data for debugging.

is there a general consensus re the usefulness of HID vs MIDI for footswitch controllers? Trying to set up my norns as essentially a guitar pedal but running into weirdness with HID data.

Hey folks.

I’m playing around with a Norns for the first time, and I’m interested in being able to route distinct signals to each of the four outputs (Stereo Headphone and two 1/4’ outputs). Is that possible? Or is the headphone signal always tied to the two main outputs?

I’ve been following these tutorials:

It seems like the CroneAudioContext defines the output to be stereo here:

Do I need to write a new AudioContext that defines a quadraphonic output? Is that even possible?

Looks like it is appearing as both:

I have this same midi controller! It would be great to get it working with norns
