strangely I just tried it again after about 20 mins off and it worked without switching channels or anything. but I did just switch channels and see that only channel 1 works, so thanks for that info.

Neat! Can you do any of that through usb/tty?

yes, you can screen in and run vim or whatever on the device. but it’s waaay more convenient to run sshfs or tramp-mode in emacs or something.

I can connect to Norns as a hotspot, but then lose my main network (since my Mac is connected to the Norns). Is there a better way to do this?

Curious - is there an indication somewhere that Norns is charging when it’s connected to power? Checked both the Levels screen and the rear LED but couldn’t quite tell.

when powered on, the LEVELS screen will show a positive number when holding KEY1 (this is the current reading). when the value is negative the battery is draining.

have you confirmed that when wifi reads “failed” it actually failed? that is, can you reach it at norns.local?

if you can’t, in a pinch, you could create a personal hotspot with your phone if your plan supports tethering.

I think they mean they can connect to the hotspot but not at the same time as their wifi network.

yeah. that’s a shortcoming. you can only be connected to one network at a time. if norns is running as a hotspot, you’ll lose the internet (maybe a good thing ). on the other hand, if your phone supports tethering you can run it as a hotspot and have both norns and mac connect to it and have the internets at the same time.

Plugged the TRS outputs of my Intellijel case into Norns and I’m getting a lot of noise (however, plugging my phone in via a stereo 1/8 to dual mono 1/4 is fine). Did I miss something obvious re. Norns’ preferred input levels/sources?

that’s a hotpocket though they are delicioso

I feel like this was answered somewhere already, but could not find…

There is no way of saving the states of particular apps for future use?
Or is there. For example, I am using GLUT, I am liking what I am doing, but need to stop now, maybe use another app, but later would like to come back to GLUT and pick up where I left off… possible or not?

inputs are standard line level. TRS should work, ring is impedance matched to ground (“fake balanced”).

some scripts save, others don’t. try going to PARAMETERS and hold KEY1. you’ll see the state save/load screen (use KEY2/KEY3 respectively). this should save/load everything in the PARAMETERs screen.

will there eventually be the option to save multiple parameter configurations? does this get saved in /dust/data? I’ve saved a few things but I’m not sure if it’s worked as I didn’t notice any visual feedback (and haven’t checked files)

sure. it’s simple for scripts to save / restore arbitrary param sets. there isn’t a default UI built into menu/maiden for this just yet.

i’ll be improving the UI and also allowing for slotted-save (like presets).

Bit of an odd one here - after adding wav files to a USB stick that I had SYNCed to, I SYNCed from it and now GLUT has no parameters and I don’t get any sound from Norns. LEVELs shows no output even when AWAKE is running. Back buttoned and now the sound came back and the sound files I added appear.

SYNC may be erasing a settings file somehow, i’ll investigate.

I can confirm the same bug on my end. I’m also occasionally getting audio engine failures when connecting the Grid (i.e. everything will just go mute). I once had the audio engine failure when going to the WiFi menu without the WiFi nub connected.

update coming (before end of week) that will address the audio fail bugs.
