Ah - thanks for clarifying. Tried a combination of cables and outputs from the modular this afternoon (main TRS outs, headphone out), but the noise persists. I’ll order a few different cables and try them out over the weekend.

I wonder what others have been using to get decent modular levels into Norns…

Interesting. I’ve reset Norns a few times since I last checked, and the Glut parameter list is showing again.

ugh. what do you mean when you say crash? does it become totally unresponsive? is it making any sound?

oh and what’s your signal strength like? when you look at SYSTEM > WIFI there’s a display for the wifi signal strength (dBm)… what does it read?

it sounds to me like all of these are likely symptoms of the same issue we’ve been seeing:

  • xruns from ALSA are crashing jackd. that brings down scsynth and things either go mute and/or hang depending on what is happening at that moment.
  • xruns often happen when initializing wifi [*]
  • they are also not unlikely to happen when launching or switching engines.

we think we have a simple fix for this in the incoming system update.

([*] edit: not the whole story with crashes on wifi enable. that seems to be a scsynth bug related to system time sync. its under investigation…)

i have a question.

what are, if any, midi enabled programs existing now within norns? i have an endorphin shuttle control i wanna sync up (especially using mlr) for sampling.

nothing yet outputs midi for sync. i also want to experiment with this right away.

earthsea and hello_ack receive midi notes.

MIDI yes!
But some way of syncing norns to euro would be huge.

I know crows will deliver the thorough integration with euro, but until that comes there should be some way to pass some form of timed triggers for sync purposes.

Being able to clock earthsea or awake would be great!

(PS: what a strange and beautiful experience it is to have earthsea deliver polyphony!)

Just curious @tehn is it possible to hook up norns by way of a Monome switch? I’m doing a performance this weekend and I’ve been hot swapping my cable between and ansible and norns and was hoping for something a bit more streamlined.

I’ve got sshfs installed and am rolling up my sleeves. Unfortunately, I can’t seem to find information on the ssh credentials documented anywhere. (Tried the “nnnnnnnn” - that wasn’t it.) Any tips?
