Curious what output level others find is optimal on norns? Mine set at @ -15 db seems to provide a clear, undistorted sound. With various engines (PolyPrec, Passersby, Molly), moving up creates distortion (breaking up).

Example

Playing melodic sequence (at various note velocities), break up at:

PolyPerc: -13.49 db
Passersby: -12.04 db
Molly: -9.46 db

I don’t recall having distortion like you’re describing, but I can check later on tonight. For reference, are you hearing this in the headphone output as well as the 1/4" outputs? This is 1.0 and 2.0 beta?

Thanks, @Jonny. Your post prompted me to look at my setup and I discovered the answer.

Checking headphone output, there was no perceptible distortion. Then, I remembered I had bumped up the channel gain on my K-Mix awhile back for another project. Dropped it to cleared up the distortion/break up.

Thanks again, or should I say “sorry for the noise”.

Hi all,

Trying to figure out the best way to get a midi clock into norns from another host…
any ideas?

some patches have an external clock option (less concepts for example), but i’ve no idea how to get that signal into the box

YAre you asking about what code is necessary or what cabling/hardware is needed?

cable/hardware… trying to send clock from an mpc live which has 5pin midi and host usb

The easiest way is with a midi-usb Y cable.

do you have an example link?

@capsella This one and a iConnectivity MIO will work for what you need. Plus and play actually. (Of course, you need to select the connector in norns…)

I know earlier it was mentioned that Norns has a 2250mah battery, does this mean I’d expect the battery level meter to report approx. that number when nearly fully drained? I believe I’ve exhausted the battery on mine and it’s reporting -830mah, give or take.

Are you getting this information from the SELECT screen?
I believe that is the current power draw, if running from battery, or the charge rate when plugged in. The batter level is to the left and noted as BAT 0-100

Oh I was getting this from holding down key 1 while in LEVELS. Is the battery meter the number in the lower right in LEVELS?

Oh, same number, just on a different version of the firmware. (I’ve gotten so used to the 2.0 beta already!) battery will be the 0-100 number and the negative number, that goes positive when you plug in is draw/charge rate.

Thanks! Twenty characters of excited for 2.0 :hugs:

0-100 battery is % full

“ma” is current. if it’s negative, it’s draining. positive is charging. 800ma is basically max charge rate.

how many other music machines show the charge rate in milliamp? ahhh (but really helpful!)

Have the audio stoping unexpected in more scripts. What’s the best thing to do? Reinstall?

Can anyone point me to resources about the Norns UI, specifically font size used? I’m prepping some UI designs in Sketch and would like a starter for ten, not sure how small you can go with the font. Cheers.

keep in mind the screen is 128 x 64 pixels, basically 4 bit grayscale.

fonts are in here: https://github.com/monome/norns/tree/dev/resources

main font is 04_B…

Ok, I’ve got the mio set on midi device nr.1 but setting less concepts to ‘external’ causes the sequencer to stop.

did I miss a step?
