it’s a 2250mah battery, draw can be anywhere from 350ma to 900ma depending on dsp usage and grid, etc. so it’s going to be wildly variable.

you get noise when plugged into the wall adapter?

Ah good tip regarding the engine loader. Also a reboot did the trick to fix the .amp() strangeness!

@tehn Does the wifi network interface on norns allow for entering a space character for the password?

Apologies, I’m thinking at some point I’d fiddled with the settings>audio> gain params and I was just getting clipping etc.

So far I’ve only been charging off usb in a laptop. I’ll double check wall socket when I get back and report if I’m getting cycling/ground hum or anything, but I suspect it was mainly bad gain stuff on my part.

ah, i guess it doesn’t. yikes. i’ll have to update that (do you have spaces in your password?)

there’s a short-term fix though-- which os is your computer?

there’s definintely a ground loop you will get if charging off the computer while also passing audio to/from the computer.

No worries, hotspot mode has worked well in the meantime. I do have spaces in my password. I’m running macOS.

Something I just realized that my grid is one of the older walnut 128 ones. While perusing the web for a newer grid, I noticed a similar grid had a separate power slot.

Is it possible my older grid pulls more bus power? And if so, do you think a powered hub might help?

Maybe it’s time to snag a new grid from you anyway…

Is there a way to delete the samples I’ve imported to Norns, or the tape files I’ve recorded with it? I realized my disk space says “0” and this might be the reason my Norns isn’t seeing the update file on my flash drive.

connect to your norns with maiden using hotspot mode. you’ll see the file tree. you can delete files through this interface.

@atomboyd your old grid should be fine. i’d just suggest powering norns off the wall supply provided

I’ve had no noise problems when charging from a wall socket while playing audio

I’m not able to turn on wifi on Norns. It just remains at “- OFF” (which means when I scroll down to hotspot, it also doesn’t react to key presses). The included wifi dongle was in before I started up Norns. Is there a way through?

i had similar issues with wifi, hotspot worked straightaway and i just dongled my desktop and connected to it that way.

Does the wifi field want the router name first?

Router name or network name? I don’t know how to find the router name. I thought since I’m not joining my local wifi network to create a hotspot, entering its name wouldn’t be necessary.

Side question: Is there a space character for the network name entry wheel? I can’t find it and my network name has spaces

I’m finding that my norns is auto connecting to the last network (despite what the screen says), so I’m usually just refreshing my maiden screen that’s become a permanent fixture.

I usually like to join it to my work network so I can stay connected and can pretty consistently connect (if not autoconnected) by doing the following steps.

  • Turn it off.
  • Make a hotspot.
  • Turn it off.
  • Join a network.

@kcikdrumk, think @tehn mentioned that he’d be adding spaces in an upcoming update. (ps, love the vids!)

Thanks for the heads up, @atomboyd. I can wait for spaces. But there’s got to be another way in to Maiden for me. Maybe re-flashing my Norns would fix all the ails it? I’m at work for most of today, so I’m in no hurry to figure this out. I’ll wait to see if @tehn has any suggestions.

(And thanks even more for the Instagram love!)

went to run norns today and i get

run the norns/sc/install.sh script again

oh also, there might be hidden files like editor backups hanging around the extensions dir

apologies that the wifi can be fiddly.

  • boot with wifi nub in
  • go to system > wifi
  • select OFF
  • select HOTSPOT
  • on your computer, connect to “norns” with password “nnnnnnnn”
  • web browser to http://norns.local

this is pretty reliable i think.

thanks i obviously forgot that when i updated to the new norns.
I took the chance to update the desktop to 3.9.3

So it was mentioned about graphics and the norns window will it do SC graphics?
I have that book and it would be fun if it showed simple stuff

I’m still not able to select OFF to turn the wifi on, and nothing happens with button presses. Same goes for clicking on hotspot. This is with the wifi nub in at boot. I also tried rebooting it, as well as a forced shutdown and restart, but no dice.

Going to get a flash drive from Amazon in the mail today, so I’ll try to update the firmware with that. If that fails, I’ll try to re-flash Norns. Will re-flashing it erase its contents and restore it to a factory state? I’m hoping so, because I’m thinking my lack of disk space is the cause of all my problems. (Well, not all of them.)
