They are aware of the 2 and 4 channel not-recording bug.

Regarding bit crushed audio, forgive me if you are aware of this, but if you have the speed of that channel set to something other than standard speed, the recording will be at a different speed (can sound bit crushed if you record while set to higher speed then set playback to standard speed).

Also, one of the developers mentioned they are working to clean up the audio so it isn’t as bitcrushed…but I like it and think it would be cool if they gave us a clean and more bit crushed option in the parameters!

hoping that possibly in the future that something can be implemented so when the user presses record and stop that mlr would recognize the tempo based on the length on the first recording in a project. Kind of the same way that pickup machines work on the Octatrack. This would make live looping a lot easier without having to maybe pre-load a percussion track to keep the time for the rest of the available tracks. Im not sure if this would be possible or not. I need to get up to speed in learning lua

Love this idea.
I also think a taptempo function would Be equally useful!
There really does need a better way to work with the tempo and loops, maybe a metronome at te least? All ideas for now

Cheers, yeah thanks I was aware. what I have is a little different and intermittent. all good.
thanks for the info.

Am I missing something, where is the 3rd page?
You talking about on the

  1. Rec level / Overdub
  2. Volume / Speed mod
    pages? thats all i have.

@yelsnit Sounds like the 3rd page being referrred to here is the Clip page, accessed on the grid itself — it’s the third grid key from the left on the top row.

Little MLR quick start pdf here, in case you hadn’t seen it:

great, got it.
Only thing I dont get now is how to get files on Norns.
Ive attached a USB stick (and tried a HD) but the files don’t load.
any ideas?

Keep in mind that - at least for now - files can’t be read directly off an external drive — you have to copy them to Norns’ internal storage in order for them to be accessible.

Have you checked the Norns docs, and in particular the System / Sync section there? Good info on file management/backup. Once you get your Norns backed up to your USB drive, you can then load samples to the /tape folder on your computer, and then sync those Norns for use in the various scripts.

Apologies if this is all old news to you — just figured I’d cover the bases

yeah Ill do that now, wasn’ aware of that. Ill get stuck into the docs and leave you alone! Cheers for the link and the help in general.

Recording in to a quantized enabled channel (ch 1) with Grid and midi sync (CV.OCD attached) caused a crash that froze Norns. Had to reboot from bottom for a fix.

After rebooting everything I record plays back distorted/broken in mlr.
Any ideas?

to my understanding there are some outstanding issues with midi sync at the moment that have been addressed and are being worked on

thank you all for spotting some issues. i plan to prioritize an mlr update with the next batch of updates.

  • midi and grid connected cause grid crashes, midi sync unreliable
  • input 1/3 2/4 bug
  • sound quality improvement with speed mod (or tempo mapping)

possible features

  • panning per track (very easy, probable)
  • buffer clear
  • start/stop buffer length set method

Do you intend to add MIDI clock IN too?

Also, would there ever be the possibility of handling stereo audio per track, either incoming audio or a loaded sample? Or is it an engine limitation?

mlr got some minor updates:

  • de-click rec start/stop
  • playback speed interp
  • 6 channels
  • clear-all-buffers: hold alt (top right) while selecting REC (top left)
  • visual changes to screen (dual-display, much nicer)

looking forward to spending some time flushing out the actual features i’d intended.

also planning a SoftCut study which shows how to script your own wildest sample manipulation ideas (!)

Alas, the select comments say panning, but I see that functionality was pulled.

Love having 6 channels!

yikes, forgot to edit the comment.

was having engine trouble with the panning method and the clock ran out.

is mlr input always on?
monitor and input level encoders don’t make any changes… am I doing something wrong or is this normal?

you’re talking about the LEVELS menu screen, right? MONITOR should work as a passthru. INPUT i believe doesn’t do anything here.

do you have RECORD on in mlr? what situation are you getting input passthru?

thanks for you reply @tehn but I think it was a bug, restarted norns and everything is ok with LEVELS
