What are you using to get MIDI out of BigWig and into the Norns? I believe you need something like a Mio2 USB MIDI host. That’s what I use to get MIDI from Ableton to the Norns.

I’ve tried a 2host device, made by @okyeron. Not sure if anybody else has had any success with using that device to get midi in to the Mother/sidekick side of a FATES board…

Any thouhts?

Yeah, I will try some aconnect stuff, which I am incredibly new to, so that might take a moment. All I’ve tried is plugging it in to the norns thats running mother and forwarding some midi that way. I will try some aconnect stuff later today. Any initial thoughts on things I might want to look for?

Wish there was a easier way too install this. Impossible for me and I tried a bunch of times. I’ve given up.

i don’t remember exactly how i did it, but i eventually got midi in working perfectly in orac and nornsmother a little while ago. here are the notes i took during that time, if they help at all:

Amidiauto has a config file, for complex devices like Launchpad should be made a rule:

You can try this:
1. Log in to Norns via ssh.
2. Edit de amidiauto config file:
sudo nano /etc/amidiauto.conf
1. Paste the following code (ensure that is the exact name of your device, in your case “Launchpad Pro”):
[allow]
Launchpad Pro <-> Pure Data

  1. Save and exit. Use ctrl+X --> yes
  2. Reload amidiauto service using the following code:
    sudo systemctl restart amidiauto
    Try this configuration opening a patch…
    1. Check the connection using the following command
      aconnect -l

Thanks so much! I’ll go through this later. I’m excited to possibly sequence Koto!

Boy oh boy… I mean, I got some midi in there, but holy shit, it sounded weird and terrible. I experienced an insane amount of lag and the sound coming out was bizarre and extremely dissonant… I will need to explore more and see whats up, but when I restarted the dang machine, the midi stopped working again… Super odd…

sorry, i didn’t have that problem once i finally setup the midi connection manager. but i’ve since re-flashed the sd card so i doubt that those settings are saved, although i could be wrong about that.

I actually just reinstalled Orac and Norns Mother for the first time since then, like over a month or two ago but haven’t gotten a chance to try out the midi again yet because i’m having problems

Does anyone know why when i go to Sidekick, then select “Organelle” in that main menu, it takes me straight to some patch i dont recognize? i don’t see the list of patches and i cant back out of that one patch without going back to the main “Orac, Norns, Organelle” menu. I can’t remember if “Organelle” was even the option to select to enter norns mother. Should I have a Norns Mother option in that menu? Is the directory structure still home/we/sidekick/patches/organelle?

i may have to reinstall all of that

It happened to me before, there is a patch which confuses the mother pd . Uninstall and when back install one patch at a time and check again. there is a specific procedure to uninstall.

Sounds like you have put a patch directly into the organelle directory , rather than as a sub directory.
ie you’ll probably find a main.pd in the organelle directory.

How’s this happen?
Either you unpacked it incorrectly or the person that created the patch did not package it correctly.

Sorry if this is already answered in the thread (didn’t find it). I noticed I can map the channel (?) for the encoders in midi.txt, but not which CC is being used. Is there a way to set this up?

Context: I’m trying to hook-up the OP-1 which has the knobs fixed to CC1-CC4

here’s a auto generating thing made in automatonism

download patch - shambles.zip (1.1 MB)

unzip
drop the unzipped folder in home/we/sidekick/patches/Organelle
in the main menu - press “Refresh Menu”
Then goto the Organelle folder and start the patch
twist the knobs :slight_smile:

Maiden no - it doesn’t view all the files on Norns. You need some FTP software - I use cyberduck to view the file structure of Norns and transfer all my files that way.
