whats happened to ~/sidekick/sidekick.json ?
it appears to either be missing, wrong permissions , or incorrectly formatted

had to sudo shutdown now to get out of stuck “Launch… CA Additive”
Now I also get a black screen.

hmm, ok…

so Ive installed Norns Mother and also minimoog (first patch I grabbed off patchstorage)
rebooted, and still seems to be ok for me

Sorry. I don’t know. I am a beginner.

I installed Sidekick again following the instruccions in the first message of the Orack, Sidekick post.

But it is still the same: blank screen

my sidekick.json seems gone indeed

I think i get it!! The fault is when NormsMother is updated! The installer delete sidekick.json

The fix is to force reinstall sidekick i think so…

no need , for a reinstall …
I keep a back of sidekick.json

simply do the following

cp /usr/local/sidekick/sidekick.json ~/sidekick

reboot, and all should be ok.

Thanks! Now it is working OK.

Awesome!
However, now instead of default booting into Norns, it goes straight into the CA Additive that hangs beyond the 3-button combo. Any trick to get out of that?

rm ~/sidekick/sidekick-state.json

this holds the last patch, if not present it will default to Norns

and not able to SSH anymore either  nor SFTP. Bit worried about ruining my sd card at this point.

none of this stuff touches ssh/sftp handling…

the only time Ive seen issues in this area, is if you seriously overload the cpu… e.g. a patch completely out of control … then sometimes ssh doesnt get any time to respond (though usually it does)

back to your issue…
a) if you can bring up the sidekick screen, then simply start another patch
this will then be the one loaded at startup
b) holding button 1 down during boot should bring up the sidekick menu without starting the patch

this is all in the sidekick threads - really nothing to do with nornsmother.

there are many more details about sidekick on orac, sidekick thread
… also Ive been updating the wiki with tips/troubleshooting etc.
I dont want to take over @Oxbown thread

I suspect the overload situation since the 3 button combo does not get me out of it. I’ll try your trick holding but 1 thx.

Thanks again that enable me to get into the menu again instead of the hanging patch.

cool, Ive added it to the ‘troubleshooting’ section of the sidekick wiki in case others need it

OK, I include this command line into the installer.sh file, the new installs will not have the issue with sidekick.json

Thaks for the feedback guys! :stuck_out_tongue:

tip

if you place organelle zip files into the Organelle directory,
you can then use the install option of sidekick, and it will unzip into that directory.

small annoyance :
despite me asking many times on C&G forums to not do it, some patches are zipped on macOS, and so contain __macOS directories.
currently you’ll have to delete these manually, but next release of sidekick will not show these on the menu anymore.

just tried https://patchstorage.com/minimoog/ which worked for @TheTechnoBear and it froze again. Will avoid any Organelle patch in Norns Mother for now.
I installed it in Organelle/Synthesizers/minimoog/ on the assumption that nested directories would work now.
