There’s already an fbtft driver in the rpi-4.19.y source so it might just be a matter of testing and making an overlay. Resolution is twice (?) that of the normal norns screen, so your text will be smaller

Does anyone if it’s possible to use multiple audio interfaces? I want to make use of the OP-Z internal audio interface in addition to my audio i/o

In addition, is it possible to set up 1 input and 1 output as an external fx bus?

You might ask this on one of the Norns specific threads to get some feedback.

(On the pi side) I think you need to create some kind of Jack client and then do some routing somehow ???

Making that work with the norns software is a whole different issue

I’m also kinda interested in this as well - done some basic searching and I’ve gotten nowhere so far.

EDIT - some Jack fu on multiple audio devices: http://www.jackaudio.org/faq/multiple_devices.html

The magician strikes again. Thnx bud. Will let you know how stuff works out. But from the look of it, it look very doable(the dual aound devices stuff). FX bus routing is different. But maybe one can sort that out on a script by script basis? Maybe an FX bus engine could be a cool thing to develop?

If anyone is trying to get norns working with the built in rpi soundcard (like I was) the problem is that crone will fail to launch if it doesn’t have an adc.

I just recompiled crone with the m->connectAdcPorts(); in main.cpp commented out, and everything seems happy.

Does anybody know about what it would take to update to the newest Norns version?

if you have a working 2.0.1 install, you should just be able to run the update without issue.

Have not tested yet as I’ve been pulling regularly from github so I already have the updates.

Seems to be working as a straight update from system. Haven’t had time to do much script testing thou.

I’ll check my current version number. By your comment, I gather that if I try to upgrade from v2.0 through the ‘upgrade’ menu item on the Norns, I’ll experience an issue, that correct?

No… you should be fine (using the upgrade menu item). Try it and see

Upgrade went well. Thanks!

Has anyone been able to make JACK work with the default pi soundcard (built in headphone jack)?

Quick searching (and trying) says it won’t work.

Was tying to troubleshoot someone installing norns without an audio board.

I can’t say i have… as always recommend an external card of some description.

but, I thought that the default raspbian distro has sonic PI running over jack using built in soundcard ? thats probably where i would start, as its a quick check, and if that works you know it’s possible. so from there you can then proceed to norns, and see where issues start cropping up as you go thru each step

Yeah I did it. I have messed about with my setup since then, working on switching over to rpi-proto. I largely followed the supercollider on rpi docs https://supercollider.github.io/development/building-raspberrypi - the other important bit was recompiling crone to disable the adc: Norns on Raspberry Pi

I have finally got sound from the Pi’s onboard soundcard tonight so very happy about that! Thanks to everyone for the massive amount of info on here, especially @okyeron who has been really fantastic getting me started.
I should have my USB audio interface back soon so will have a play around with the Jack settings to get that going which will hopefully be a bit easier now I (kind of) know what I’m doing!! First I’ll try to document exactly what I had to change incase anyone wants to make a minimal breadboard setup like mine…

Does anybody have issues with low incoming sound in comparison to engine generated sound? Softcut is often low volume for me too.

Can someone let me know what their general preferred Compression settings are in the audio settings?

I’m trying to diagnose if maybe my Audio Injector Ultra 2 needs sound to be amplified before properly coming in.

Check your alsamixer settings for the inputs?

Let me find out in about an hour an a half, but I remember it being at either 80 or 100.

Mix page input level? Adequate amplification pre-input? (Norns expects line level)
