I’m making a 3D case for the Norns shield. This is my first Fusion 360 design, still ironing out some bugs, I suppose. Will share when ready.

I used the 3d model of the Norns plus Rpi posted in this thread, but the height of the screen is off. What is the height from the shield pcb to the top of the screen with a normal sized header?

Inspired by some beautiful designs posted here, so I tried my hand with a remix of @0F.digital’s Tinkercad design. This is printed with some flexible transparent filament I had. (It’s a little squishy.)

I don’t have calipers, but with a measuring tape I see 13mm from the shield pcb to the highest edge of the screen. That’s with the header that came with the kit.

A very simple 3D print case based on Andrew’s dxf-files. Can be used and modified on Tinkercad.

Updated the design a bit and tried to create a workable case without any screws on the top panel.

Here is the Github, STL files included. As it states on Github, this is my first design, and as I don’t own a 3d printer yet this is untested as of now. Not sure if this works as designed, perhaps it will prove impossible to get the RPi into the case like this.

Obviously open to constructive criticism as this is my first Fusion 360 design (also have a Grid case on Github).

I contacted them and never got a reply :frowning:

Maybe try Razorlab in UK?

I have my package from Razorlab waiting in the post office ready to pickup on Monday.
Top and bottom for Norns shield, 16n, a matrix mixer I’m designing and a few blank panels for eurorack. I’ll share here how it looks.

Soner from Razorlab has been really nice!

Keep me posted. I need to get a case together for mine, and I’ve been looking at Razorlab. I would really like to use @andrew plywood case. I think Razorlab uses blue for cutting though, right?

touching up l that one soon - might also want to check out the @okyeron one

Thanks! What are you planning to change on the design?

I didn’t realise @okyeron’s one was also open sourced. The differences will be the venting, is that right?

Soner is very good to deal with. They gave changed their production system, now i send them the files i have. No more scratching my head with inkspace…now that I was getting a workflow!

I got the laser cut panels today from Razorlab.

Norns with no screen cut needed. Engraved the numbers of keys and encoders.

16n (faders missing)

And some blanks for my rack to feel complete

Finish is much better than expected.

Just to chip in here, I spoke to a couple of guys from RazorLab today, and both were really helpful answering my noob questions re. laser cutting display windows.

Ha! I was chatting with Robbie today too. They must be wondering what’s going on!

Scored a junction box with a clear lid for a fiver then went to work on it with a dremel…

Tried something different with my Norns shield. Still trying to figure out if I like it.

I also learned that you need to be careful with fusion 360. If you print a 2d design, it might not print at the correct scale. Didn’t turn out too bad considering I printed the hole layout at 96% or so scale.

This is a lovely alternate form factor!! Love the use of switches too, has a real lab equipment vibe to it.

Tour ready version, built like a tank.
I love it!

Oh wow! How are you getting along with those switches? Interesting change in the tactile interface.
