This is beautiful and now I want a shield + this case. Amazing work @JHC I admire the simplicity of it and the fact that it keeps the transparent top.

Is anyone else keeping an eye on the #norns hashtag on social webs like Instagram? As those who do, and those just generally educated know, The Norns are these awesome female characters in Norse mythology.

So if one were to take inspiration for case design from this choice of product naming my Monome, what would these sound computer designs look like?

I get ALL SORTS of Nordic mythology notifications now since a few months and everytime I just have to pause and take a few seconds to remember I once followed the “Norns” hashtag and the result is not quite like you’d expect. I’m fine with it though it’s become sort of a personal private joke and I think to some extent I keep following the hashtag for the engravings and ritual paintings more than for the gear pictures.

PS: For related shield case design, eagirly awaiting the weaved version.

Thank you for sharing these! I don’t have access to a lasercutter right now so these drawings are great for drafting a makeshift case.

thx can wait to put on my norns pics soon

Great design! Does it use the original top plate?

Some great cases in this thread! My idea of a case currently is one little leg and some blutak. need to find another standoff for the other corner at least. :-S

Yes, you just need to omit the base plate that comes with the shield and just screw everything into the case. The screw holes are recessed too. - I have also built a rise into the base so the Raspberry pi PCB sits nice and level.

Here’s another case design for the shield, it is a 3D printed shell with an Aluminum top plate as a nod to the OG Norns. There are ventilation slots hidden around the rim of the shell, as well as perforations on the bottom face.

I used alternative knobs and 3D printed my own buttons that are lower-profile, but it should work with all the original hardware as well.

The files are available at my Github if you want to make your own.

I’ve received quite a bit of interest in this, so I’ll probably order another batch of Alu panels and printed cases soon, let me know if you’re interested and it will help me know how many I need to buy.

Amazing design, so slick

Where did you source those knobs?

Thanks! The knobs were salvaged from a broken Mackie DC16 mixer, I wish I knew where to source similar ones… The closest I’ve found are maybe the Rogan or Sifam knobs.

Parts are being made for a new batch of these, and will be ready within the next two weeks.

The new batch will be optimized to work with the original knobs and buttons from the kit, so no 3D printed button required. The GitHub repository has been updated accordingly.

I have an updated design for those interested in a case without the pi ports accessible.

Very cool. What’s the length of the top screws?

Anyone have a mouser/digikey cart for all standoffs?

github repo has mcmaster p/n’s

Thank you, I have seen this but this is a separate delivery from a free mouser shipping which I am planning to do anyway and one more package which is also a bit wasteful regardless of shipping price (and I am not in US so this can complicate things even more). Just a bit hard for me to make sense of mouser catalogue for standoffs so I thought maybe someone have one already. Will post the cart here when/if I will find all the parts there.
