Curious for script compatibility…

What happens with the new params features (groups, separators, etc) if someone is on an older version of norns? Ignored? Errors?

I’m already updated and can’t immediately test

Was there any audio level changes? I’m noticing a change in loudness, but unsure where to start searching

@kveye I’ve found that the Output level seems to get reset at odd times to full after this update. Haven’t spent enough time with it to know for sure but seems to have happened with Reels and Mangl - so if you are finding that things are louder that may be it.

Will try to pin this behavior down since “it seems to do this sometimes” is a terrible way to describe a problem.

Not sure this can be any help, but the update failed two times for me over WIFI. Then I disconnected everything but the power cable and tried again and it worked.

Could be some dodgy cable on my side. I often have the problem that the audio is super-low when the thing boots with all cables attached.

@kveye + @kingmetal, this is likely related:

For backing up any rpi based project, I use ApplePi-baker to make bit-wise backups of the sd cards. I know there was discussion of another program somewhere in the fates thread for a windows option.

You can generate an image file from an SD card with Disk Utility on MacOS as well.

docs updated!

params: https://monome.org/docs/norns/play/#parameters
tape: https://monome.org/docs/norns/play/#tape
soft reset: https://monome.org/docs/norns/play/#sleep

lmk if anything’s missing from these usability docs – i’ll be starting a new thread/call-for-help to do study rewrites super soon!

Is it just me, or are the sub headers a bit small?

Great job on the docs btw!

that sweet, sweet fourth header size

not a very compelling formatting choice, for sure. lemme mock up some alt approaches, great call out!

now that i see it— the only time H1 (single #) is used is in the page title.

so we should probably just upgrade all the headers to one level up. (i can do this in an automated fashion)

otherwise, if we’re hitting H4 that might mean we should have sub-pages?

what do you think?

I can’t speak to the code or the coders, but as a user I really appreciate the immediacy of navigation. One-level down of pages makes lots of sense (scripts that have lots of samples and settings take forever to scroll) but I think digging a rabbit hole could be exactly that.

is there a way to save a global parameter as a temporary fix for now? i have to re-set my monitor and tape levels every time i open a script

since updating my mixer settings get reset upon opening any script to make both monitor and tape levels = 0

Haven’t really got the chance to play around with my Norns Shield since the update, but I really like that Tape now loops the audio file!

It’s possibly not lots of subpages, now I read it. But I think the params/mapping stuff could happily be a single page: there’s a lot going on there, and it feels significantly different conceptually from, say, configuring the WiFi. But I’m not sure every subsection there needs a page.

Of course, part of the complexity of breaking into pages is how that’s presented/organised; the breaking is only one part.

The mix levels are also getting reset if i open a script, for instance molly the polly?
and i dont know if this is as intended but reverb on/off is also getting reset.

Exactly what I’ve been experiencing today: parameters and mix levels aren’t saved when changing scripts or after turning the Norns back on (after a proper “sleep”). Also, when playing a loop in Tape, it goes silent when changing scripts…

Also, is it possible to choose the Tape to either loop or play once?

And one more noob question, as I’m pretty new to this platform: is it possible to route Tape through the apps/scripts? Some of them (like bounds) do this already, but others doesn’t. I assume this requires changing the code? Would be cool if you could choose it on a system level.
