Hi all! Hoping someone can help me - I’m a bit of a newbie to Norns, but just purchased a third-party shield.

I updated the unit, but now the unit isn’t turning on. I can connect to the unit through Maiden, and there’s also a sine wave on the about as mentioned in the docs:

‘If your shield does not seem to be booting, the first thing to check is if the “startup tone” is occurring from your shield’s output. Connect headphones or a speaker to shield’s output (demarcated by the outward-facing arrow) and power it up – within 20 seconds or so, you should hear a sine-like tone which indicates the norns OS has been successfully loaded.’

I can hear that tone, however there’s nothing on the screen. Does anyone have any recommendations?

The screen connection is one of the trickiest and most error prone parts of the shield (at least in my experience with mine). Check the pins for visible damage or bending. Pictures of the soldering could also help maybe?

A mod is likely to move this into one of the existing shield threads (you didn’t do anything wrong things just get filed away into threads more often than not on here) but I wanted to link you to this thread as a jumping off point. Thanks. This unit was pre-built. It was working fine before the update. Is there anything I can do within maiden to reset the unit?

Before worrying about the hardware, check if this fix solves the screen problem.
