I sent away for a few quotes - I’ll be get back to you with pricing shortly. If a number of us on this thread are planning on building, maybe we cast our lots together to cut down on costs? In addition to the PCB, even some of the components (like the USB socket) require minimum order numbers. Raise your hand if you are interested in getting in on group/shared orders and I’ll investigate how our combined efforts might work out.

Great find! With this pricing - I don’t think we’ll need a group buy. This website also had a link to all the discrete and SMD components for ca. $36. I just ordered the board and all the parts. I’ll send pics (if anyone cares) as soon as I receive it all.

I would love to see a supercollider or pd implement of the Nsynth. I recently bought the super collider book. It’s been fantastic, if I take to supercollider well enough I’d like to try to play around recreating the nsynth as a ugen.

Has anyone built and setup one of these?

I’ve got two built but unfortunately when I get to the “make install” portion of the instructions I get an error and I cannot proceed.

If anyone is handy with linux or has gone through this already and can give someone a bit of help I would very much appreciate it.

I built mine a couple of years ago. I don’t remember any errors with “make install”. I used the 64GB image (with the sound library) SD card:
64GB (with sounds) https://storage.googleapis.com/open-nsynth-super/images/onss_1.2.0_full.img.bz2
16GB (without sounds) https://storage.googleapis.com/open-nsynth-super/images/onss_1.2.0_lite.img.bz2

As I remember, you just have to record the image in the SD (via Etcher), put it in the raspberry and enjoy!

As I remember, yeah.

They are two different paths. Build your version of the software or download and save the image in the SD.

I followed the steps in this guide (GitHub - googlecreativelab/open-nsynth-super: Open NSynth Super is an experimental physical interface for the NSynth algorithm). Regarding software, it only indicates:

record the image on the SD
run the script for the controller.

If the error is when running the script for the microcontroller, paste the code and the error here. I keep an eye on it.

So I copied the 64 gb image to the card.
Logged in
Made the filesystem read/write
Tried to do the “make install” step as shown in the next step and that’s when I get an error.
here’s a screenshot as it was easier

I was following the same instructions as the page you shared. I have tried connecting a midi keyboard and sending the rpi notes but the display does not turn on. I suspect because this last step has failed.

Any help appreciated!

It seems that some people have had this problem due to power supply problems.

I built a few up. Still have 3 or 4 of them around I think. It is cool to build and play with, but I think it needs better sounds trained into it. I never got around to it, but I should give it another go.
