Oilcan Percussion Co.

Oilcan is a monophonic digital-style percussion voice, designed with n.kria in mind, but will “just work” with any n.b. enabled script.

At its core, Oilcan is two sine waves capable of basic FM synthesis. These operators are wavefolded, then mixed into two stages of clipping.

Inspired by akemi’s taiko, tyso daiko, monomachine, nord drum 2, syntakt.

this is a standalone script, right?
ask because I got it from maiden but it is not to be found in my list on norns

maybe im missing something?
thank you

It’s a mod, and specifically acts as a voice for other scripts that use the nb library. The easiest one to try it out is probably n.kria.

Took a little time and menu diving to find a punchy techno kick plus hats/shakes to accompany a bleepscape with modular and a norns script, and I have to say having this plus Matrix and toolkit mods are just so incredibly good to always have available on-device! Thank you! :oil_drum:

Glad to hear you like it! I’d love to hear the sounds you made.

I wonder if I should make an editor script - some nicer way of editing oilkits on-device, where you could save them for future use with sequencers. any interest in that?

yep
it would be sick!

Although there is a bit of menu-diving between matrix mod, oilcan, and toolkit or whichever sequencer is at work. The menu-thing is really very versatile and has the benefit of tweaking sounds in context with a loop running – the most fun way I find, besides I am not great at listening to sounds in isolation and I have never understood how on earth would I ever be able to make a kit of any sort… I just really enjoy tweaking in the fly… but then again I never produce anything, just jam jam jam =}

I would be wise to quickly map some of the involved parameters to a MIDI controller, this is really easy and quick (wow I love the K1+K3 megashortcut (or is it K2 – only my fingers know), whose idea was it!)
