@paulmouse is your norns up-to-date? (system -> update). i’d hate to say this too, but have you tried turning it off and on again? (for some reason this truly fixes things sometimes)

@kveye i think its a good idea to make things more uniform. K3 is supposed to be dedicated to “play” but i’ll think on it!

Hi Thanks, the System Update did the trick - I don’t know why I didn’t do that sooner but I am new to this. By the way, thank you so much for your creativity - keep up the great work. :slightly_smiling_face:

new norns user here and loving this script. wondering if there’s a way to record loops from tape files, or is it line-in only?

yeah! i believe you can do it just by playing the tape and then starting the recording on the loop. lmk if that doesn’t work - i haven’t made this setting explicit and i thought it just worked by default (but i’m not sure!). i’ll make this a setting in the next update so you can easily choose to record from only line-in, tape or line-in, or only tape.

Is it possible to load samples into it?

sweet, I’ve tried a couple of times and haven’t had success but wasn’t sure if it was user error or not. if it’s a possibility in a future update though I would be super happy. thanks my dude!

v0.9.4 taming randomized lfos

in my live sets i wanted the lfos to behave a little more rhythmically so i added beat-locking (only for randomizing of them!).

@cosmicsoundexplorer its not possible to load samples, except by playing them from tape. might be something to explore for me!

@hghrlearning there is now a setting to modify the input source recording -> input type so you can specify “line-in+tape” to record from both line-in and tape. when recording from tape you must manually trigger recording (K1+K3, twice) since the “primed” recording is still only triggered from line-in.

changelog

  • ux: add parameter to change input type (defaults to line-in+tape)
  • ux: mellow the randomized lfos
  • ux: randomized lfos quantize to current bpm

I really enjoy Oooooo. Thank you !!

One idea came to mind yesterday.

Would it be possible to have a mode in which the tape length will be set by the recording time (the time between pressing record and stop recording)?

Second that! That would really be useful!
Bonus points for integrating that with the clock, so the clock automatically is set based on the length of the first loop.

this should already work - as long as your initial loops are longer than you intend to record. currently if you are recording on a loop you can press stop (K2) and it will shorten to that size and stop. or you can press play (K3) and it will shorten to that size and play. it only works by shortening to the end size, but lengthening. and it only works on one loop at a time, though - i wonder if your suggesting to make it shorten on all the loops? or to lengthen?

i.e. use the setting for how many beats are in a loop and update the clock bpm based on how long the loop is? that is not currently available but easily done!

I can’t seem to get into record mode. K3 won’t play unless I move to A. If stop, reset a tape, K3 won’t restart it. I updated my Norns and tried a fresh install from Maiden. Here is some code from Maiden.

Hi, could you please add mono input if possible? FWIW Otis has this option. Many thanks

input is already mono, i believe.

here’s the relevant code:

similar to barcode, all six voices are already utilized for playback, i only utilize one voice for recording at a time. that voice records both channels into it so its converting stereo to mono.

there are two ways to get into record mode.first way is pressing K1+K3, which should “prime” and then it auto-starts if incoming audio exceeds threshold (parameter in global params) second is to press K1+K3 and then K1+K3 again - that should manually start recording. try that option. if that doesn’t work then i’m perplexed. your maiden doesn’t show anything wrong…

All good, reset and working now

…what i try to say is to be able to monitor in stereo when I connect my source only to the left norns
input, same for barcode. Thank you

This doesn’t need to be changed in the script itself. In the levels setting page MONITOR can be set to stereo or mono.

I think the request is to be able to select a single channel for recording (+playback?) instead of always summing L+R at input
