Embarrassed that I haven’t used the onboard delay much because I usually have Nitro in the FX slot and run the OP-1’s output through my El Cap. but this comment led me down a many-hours wormhole of delay fun and soundscaping!!!

Sometimes things go fast. Three weeks since my post and my setup has been through a total make over. But the OP-1 is still here, and most of my eurorack setup. I’ve recently bought a Hermod to make it play along with OP-1 and that works like a charm. But I still actually think that it’s the most fun to plug the OP-1 into MI Ears and go from there.

Thanks for your recommendation!

I’m really bugged out about this audible ground loop issue and have to get an USB isolator as soon as possible. The problem is that I don’t know which one to get since the one recommended below is from a site based in the States, and if I order that one I’ll have to wait at least for a month until I get it. Can anyone point me towards an OP-1 friendly USB isolator in Europe?

This may do the trick?

20 characters of ordered! Thank you!

Can any of you longtime users of the OP1 give me an idea on how much the software has developed from the very beginning to what it is today? Bugfixes seem logical but did TE add features/engines or was it that glorious from day1?
Asking for a friend that dreams of different synthengines on the OP Z😃

I’ve had op-1s on and off from 2014, aside from one new synth engine and a new sequencer (neither gamechangers, both nice) I don’t remember much in the way of new stuff, though maybe I skipped an update or two, it’s been pretty magical since the start. The op-z seems like they may go more of a peripheral direction (a sampler attachment?) than a software update, did I read somewhere that there wasn’t much free memory for many software updates? Did I make that up?

i think i got mine the same year it was released, however i didn’t really use it much in the beginning. it was fun to use, but for me the sound quality wasn’t ok for studio use.
to me it’s still very fun to use nowadays, and with more engines to choose from. maybe my ears are worse now, but i think the sound is fine when listening in tape mode. the added ground loop noise from the usb cable is possible to remove in several ways, now i use my dj mixer as ground point.

here’s a track i recorded some days ago, zero samples were hurt in the process, only synthesis on the op-1…

Ah yeah :facepunch:t2: Thats some nice sound design and sequencing-thnx! My general impression with the TE sound is that its quite cold/digital overall. I‘m down with this.

Probably true-that slot makes up for new ways

I got an OP1 recently and I think combining the sampling with the inbuilt synths and ‘tape’ recorder can lead to some real non digital/sterile sounding results. I love it!

This track is all OP1 synths, with some guitar and voice also thrown in (recorded with the built in OP1 mic):

The noise is also sampled static from the built in radio. I haven’t found it to be inherently noisy at all yet.

Yeah great! I forgot the radio in the OP 1 :sunglasses:
There‘s is some serious downsampling/filtering/fluttering in your track-is this coming from the tape algo?

Yeah I recorded it all at a faster speed and then slowed the tape down quite a bit. I love this effect

The fluttering is probably due to a lot of the pads etc. being manipulated samples of my voice (I am a pretty shoddy singer at the best of times ).

I bought mine at the end of 2012. IIRC at least these engines/sequencers/effects have been added since: sketch & arpeggio sequencers (plus other sequencers gaining some features, at least endless max length from 99 --> 128); dbox, dsynth, voltage, dna; cwo effect; some new lfo features (tremolo lfo shapes at least) plus a lot of tiny new features related to tape and sync. It’s been getting a lot of love from TE over the years. Even the update this year added a new tape feature: per beat grid markers for easier slicing.

Woah thats an impressive list tho🚀

cheers! i like the direct approach on the op-1 for doing impro (the track is an unprepared impro with an additional eq:d feedback channel on the mixer), but it’s tricky if you aim for some transitions, usually it goes haywire sooner or later… it’s almost like skateboarding or riding a bike or whatever, the more transitions or tricks you aim for, the harder it is to make, or at least get 10 minutes usable recording.

hopefully, at some point having fun goes along with aesthetic purposes

@Ithacus: nice track, using the radio on the op-1 is really cool.

working on op-1 manager script for norns :slightly_smiling_face:

This is a dream come true

wowow amazing!!!
now you have me imagining a version that also supports op-z so you can transfer samples/kits prepared on the op-1 and/or norns to the op-z
