That would be cool addition for all op-z owners! (i sold mine partly because of that lack of convenient sample managment system)

did you put any signal processing on the end of this? saturation or eq? it sounds much warmer than op-1 usually does but could be the samples / tape slowdown?

based on the buzz, sounds like you used it through an audio interface rather than recording to tape and then pulling stems in via usb?

edit: really nice sound!

My solution to the ground loop problem has been to run it through a DI - Radial JDI in my case, which I have 4ch of.
If I have it connected via USB to my iPad (LOVE sequencing Ripplemaker with it), sometimes I have to run my iPad through a DI too.

But if I connect the iPad straight to the OP1 via USB and record it onto the OP1 via 1/8" and neither are connected to power, no ground loop.

Hey thanks @dsiah

I just transferred the side a and side b stereo .aiffs into my mac via USB.

I added some compression and eq (also some Valhalla reverb) in ableton to the stereo tracks (my attempt at mastering) but no saturation.

Any buzz etc is probably from me sampling the radio etc.

The sound of the Op1 synths on their own is ok, but for me the magic is the ease of integrating samples and recordings into the op1 workflow (something as simple as a built in mic has a big effect on usability imo).

Slowing the tape down also definitely has an effect on the tone; I like it :+1:

Distorted/overdriven drum loops. Create a loop on the tape, lift it into the sampler and turn the volume up to taste.

Soooo does anyone know what the Phone effect actually do? I get that it’s some sort of bit/sample rate crusher but hard to get something “nice” out of it. Phone and DBOX are the only ones that still puzzle me after 2 years of having the op-1 :frowning:

@yun

The Phone is a pitch shifter.

Tone is pitch, it tracks your input and can be precisely tuned with the shift knob.

Phonic… It sort of plays with how stable the pitch tracking is when met with more complex sources. 99 is the most stable.

Baud is the amount/frequency of random pitch glitches. Will stablize with static sounds… ish

Telematic is a mix knob.

Interesting… I guess I never viewed it as a pitch shifter with all the random glitches you hear from Baud but now that I think about it, that totally makes sense. Hope I can figure out how to fully utilize it. Thanks a lot man!

great thread. as someone late to the op-1 party, this is much appreciated!

any pointers to favorite patch/sample repositories? looking for some singing bowls and chimes in particular… :wine_glass:

dbox is a drum synth

This is the main patch repository: https://op1.fun/

Also, this randomizer is brilliant: http://op-rand1.appspot.com/welcome.jsf. Click on “switch mode” to generate dbox or dsynth patches.

I meant deciphering/mastering the dbox synthesis lol!

I’ve got some trouble with this ground loop adapter from Expressive E that I use together with OP-1 and Hermod. Hermod can go bananas after a while when I’ve got the adapter plugged into the wall, so I’m quite scared to use it.
Has anyone else tried this adapter and can confirm that it works with the mentioned devices, or should I be afraid and don’t use it at all?

@bjarlstedt Any luck here?

I just got a used Ansible and went for a trial run in MIDI mode with the OP-1, using the Expressive E adapter. After a little while, it began dropping CV notes and occasionally Trigs - overall working, but inconsistently.

It was solid with my Grid, so it could’ve been a number of variables (initially didn’t think of the Expressive E adapter as the culprit). I’m refreshing Ansible firmware tonight and giving it another go.

I’ve found that I sometimes get dropped midi when I change octaves. Not sure if it’s ansible or the op-1. Is that what’s happening to you?

Yes! And I think the pitch bend really confused it, too. Some notes just wouldn’t register, and was very inconsistent from octave to octave.

Sorry, this may not be the best thread to troubleshoot op1/ansible communication issues…

Sorry, no luck there. It made Hermod jitter and even stay turned on while the eurorack power supply was off, so I didn’t dare to use it. And because of that I actually sold my OP-1.

Ok I’ve been experimenting with trying to get the OP-1 synced with the Expert Sleepers FH-2.

The sync issues originally described in this post were fully fixed as of FH-2 firmware 1.8.1 - editing so as to not confuse future OP-1 buyers!

Getting the chance to use the op-1 for a while during my travels around Europe. Would love to know if anyone in here has used it for more ambient purposes!

Not so much, but my friend makes ambient with it. Definitely experiment with different tape speeds. Slowing down, thereby lowering the sounds 1-2 octaves makes everything nice and dreamy. The tombola sequencer and the seemingly random pattern it creates can be good for “airport”-music etc. Have a nice trip!
