feedback:
fine params adjustments possible
midi learn, how to save state? it seems that params learn work but when i try to asign the next controller to a different param, it steals the firstly asigned param
aux of course no aux no rec?
volume per module - easy way?
is it ok to send feedbak here? thanks

fine adjustments? you want finer adjustments on parameters?
ok, so this is a trade off, smaller step size = large rotation for bigger changes.
once Im happy with the button usage - ill see if one is ā€˜spare’ to enable a fine adjust combo.

midi learn…
process is:

  1. midi learn on
  2. send cc,
  3. tweak param(s) ,
  4. repeat 2 & 3
  5. midi learn off

midi learn is saved in preset.

note: sending a cc value of zero will ā€˜delete’ all midi mappings for this cc

long term note: midi learn is something i want to completely redo in a future Orac update (for all platforms), replacing it with a modulation matrix.

aux, is currently done with midi … see router options.
(as OP notes, i plan to add a dedicated norns button in future release)

volume per module = gain on router module (and you can midi map this!)

spent a better part of my day messing around with Orac on Fates. sequencing into the op-z and then routing the audio back into Orac. Great fun! Where is the ā€œbestā€ place to find additional modules?

right sound in no sound, tested ok on norns
cc 69 doesn’t seem to do anything (aux)
does nori sampler allow rec? any other app that records?

right input channel is working for me ok…
it could be one of the effects is not wired up for the right channel (mono fx use only left)

to test…
use an init patch,
go to router,
chain A1 , in gain L 100% , in grain R 100%
now send in audio.
you should hear audio on both sides.

cc69… hmm, its hard to tell if its working if you dont know the patches, as there is no feedback because the AUX line is not sent to fates.
it probably is working

test failed right input not working, if I pan the left to the right works
so is it the physical in? but then it works on norns os…strange…

Hmm, odd - the above works fine for me.
( I test by only plugging in right or left input)

Are you sure when you tested in norns the left and right input were completely independent?

Perhaps check with amixer ( Linux command) that somehow your right channel is not muted for ALSA - seems unlikely

Anyone else seen any issue with input audio channels?

yes mono cable…i’d need instructions re amixer if possible…ta

i have a set of granular patches for pd that i would like to adapt but i want to use

128 Varibrite Grids
Latest Arcs

Can someone please weigh into pd grids communication?
I think the biggest hurdle for me will be either adapting or finally understanding how to get pd and the grid speaking and then of course ARCs that’s before i even get to granular synthesis etc…

Does anyone have an example patch in pure data with both grids and arcs working?

This may interest you: https://github.com/TheSlowGrowth/MonomeArcClone/blob/master/firmware/arc-scratchpad.pd

thank you for this! this works
t the monome arc shows up and the lights turn on !
anyone out there have any other patches or arc studies for/with pd?

Getting screen glitching when I turn encoders

Wonder what I did wrong to make that happen?

Never seen this …
Looks like the libcairo buffer is some how corrupt , but in all the time running ( obviously a lot during dev) I’ve never seen this … or anything similar.

When you switch pages does it continue to be corrupted or does the redraw clear it?

I’m assuming you haven’t done anything that means something like norns could be running in the background still?
( though that tends to look different - and usually screen flickers, as norns continually redraws)

Hard to say unless we can get some reproducible steps esp. since no one else has reported it. ?!

Yeah for sure. Probably an isolated situation for now I’d guess. But it would happen on any small knob turn. It’d clear up on one increment then glitch on the next increment (and so on)

I did manage to get norns display to glitch once, so I’m gonna say hardware. (??) Can’t take it apart until next week (on the road) or until I get home.

probably @okyeron…

you can just type amixer … and it’ll details all settings.
you are interested in capture , left and right.
that said, it looks like these are combined on this driver.

but I don’t really understand at all whats going on if you say its working on norns.
if its ok, on norns, should not be hardware.
but i also know 100% its working on Orac with this install (Ive now test multiple times  )

it really does sound like you dont have the gain turned up on the right channel somewhere
or using an FX which is mono, which most are ! you can get around mono FX by panning the input to the left.

this could be a test to try.
INIT preset
S1 Router -> Chain 1 Gain -> In L Gain 100% , In R Gain 100%
S1 Router -> Chain 1 Pan -> In L Pan L100 , In R Pan L100
(the later will pan all input received on right to left … as we have so called ā€˜split stereo handling’)

if this works, then you know its not the input, rather something going on down the right channel.

if this does not work then… install VNC , and then start PD from the terminal (just type pd)

then from the PD gui menu, Media -> Test audio and midi
at the top you will see it reports the levels of the input… check to see that you are getting decent values on both sides when you put in a signal AND that they are independent.

btw: id be really grateful if someone else here can verify audio input is ok on both left and right and is independent … just in case something is different about my setup. (though I really cannot see why this would be the case)

thanks, when u say init preset how? I just load a new parallel router…
-first test failed, also noticed that the left working input always goes out in stereo…
-am on a mac

update: it seems the problem is in panning? when I pan from right to left sound comes up.
Also when I pan the left to the right sound fades. As said before sound comes out always stereo.
so it seems like the issue is between stereo and right out. do I make sense?

In the menu where it says demo1, that’s the active preset - select it and it will allow you to change preset - select init, and the do as described above.

Wow, what a work of art this is!
It installed on my factory norns with no problem. I wasn’t sure when it was done but after it was on ā€œreading chagelogsā€¦ā€ for a while I figured it must be. The norns screen didn’t change at all. I held down all 3 buttons for longer than noted here, and nothing happened, but as soon as I let go, sidekick popped up.

Once in Orac, it took me a good 10 minutes to figure out how to stop the beat (3rd button hold and 2nd encoder). I saw on your youtube that you said you added references for the factor norns in your wiki, but when I looked I couldn’t find anything. Specific link?

Thanks again for this addition!
ps. first post ever and it goes to you

EDIT: I should note that my issue was user error. I was not familiar with Orac before I installed it, and, for a brief moment, was wondering what the heck was going on. Browsing through the original post again, I DO see that the controls are listed. If only I saw that when I first loaded Orac! Ah well.

You had mentioned suggestions, so here’s one (not even sure it’s possible, but it would blow my mind if it was): It is possible to make grid and arc act as a master or global controller? For example, grid can be a keyboard, and you can assign the right most column to scroll up/down or select the module pages, and arc is auto assigned to those 4 controls. Switching to a new module would have the same controls if it’s a synth, but if it was a sequencer or something else, perhaps different. I guess there could be 3-4 templates that would fit all needs. This would be a phenomenal thing, if possible. I have yet to look at grids and arc integration (they weren’t alive when I was in Orac), but I did see someone above post about arc and a granular sampler.

Another request for Grids & Arcs to be understood as global controllers inside Norns ecosystem(s)
