yeah, I spotted that the other day…I think its updating the display a bit too frequently
I’ll fix it in next release - but it should not be a big deal though, as its only on one core.
(its also running the remote display server, which is not really required - but i don’t think thats the issue)

I’ll also check to see if the demo pd patches are also polling too quickly (and fix) , but that is something users can change in the patch if its an issue in the meantime.

Launch...
orac

until i hold the buttons for sidekick again. any ideas?
i’ve uploaded a few patches, but so far all hang on the Launch... screen.

Ok, the other PdDemos have not had NuiLite updated , so you’d need to copy libnuilite.so to the patch directories.

For orac can you run

journalctl -u orac 
journalctl -u mec

Do you hear anything when orac is starting ?
You should hear some drums.
If so pd is ok…
If not if not I wonder if the audio device is different

Can you type

aplay -l

Display not appearing - hmm perhaps i didn’t copy the libnuilite.so over to mec?
I’ll double check when I get back from dog walking.

I am very interested in Orac on original Norns as I don’t know yet if I need to have to and build a DIY one. Great that it’s not either/or and both system can work on the same device.

Picking from your proposed personal caveat the ones fitting best for me:

excellent, so if you hear drums PD and orac are both working fine…
its just MEC

and I found that I forgot to enable NUI when I built it on the dev box

anyway, Ive uploaded a new version… (previous post has correct link)

as a bonus, Im now going to update the demos, and will update the post above with links for those too
(give me 5 minutes or so)

I am struggling with installing orac on my fates board (rpi 3+) at the very first step. sudo apt install throws some errors:

Did you expand the disk image?

sudo raspi-config

Then go to Advanced Options and select the first option to Expand Filesystem

Finish and reboot (if not prompted).

hmmm, @TheTechnobear, the synths/midi stuff is working, but i can’t seem to get audio in to orac. i have next to no orac experience, so i could just be missing something. any thoughts?

edit: i was just missing… like… all of the orac settings lol everything is working now!

re: feedback

planning to get fates or diy norns and see no immediate need to experiment with orac on my factory norns

i’ve already tinkered a bit by upgrading to 32gb rpi3+ so have no inherent aversion to hacking mine for new features

right now the secondary reason i’d wait is cause there’s a lot about orac that i don’t know (the burden is on me to take time for research)

once i read more about it i’m sure i’ll reaching a tipping point for or against

I just need to test that this experimental release also works on fates, then I can roll the two things together to form one unified release.

(I’ll also think about how to make it easier for non-Linux users to do the install pure data step that’s necessary.)

@Gerald_Stevens What all did you get to get sorted with VNC and Windows? I’m consistently stuck with this:

using framebuffer /dev/fb0
load startup patch: Norns

script running : cd “./patches/Norns”; ./run.sh &
starting norns
Connection failed (Invalid argument)

Using a Pi4 but from what I’ve read the display (/dev/fb0) doesn’t seem like it should based on what I’ve read so far. Doesn’t trigger PD to start like in your example. Not sure really where to begin in describing/dissecting this. Have tried a lot of different approaches so far, would love to answer any questions that might get me closer. Thanks

For me I was excited to see Orac available on Norns as I’ve recently decided to part with my organelle. (I just don’t like the quality of the dac)

All I’ve done is upgrade to cm3+ on my factory Norns. I’m not too worried about breaking it although also not super comfortable doing things in the terminal.
