Ahh ok, seems like a swing might be covered enough.
Shuffling triggers I meant to be kinda like a vertical rotate but with a cross fade like element. Say the knob has no effect at 12 o’clock, then as you move clockwise you get more trigers from the top channel being copied downward. And moving anticlockwise you get copies from the bottom moving upward.

Could you do this with something like an ASR or S+H? The Verbos random module has a 4 input ASR that would let you shift gates along 4 different outputs with the shifting speed controlled by cv.

ASR would work for rotating triggers but not for crossfading (with triggers i guess it’s not really crossfading as much as crosstalk between trigger channels).

it’s an interesting idea but a pretty special case. i might consider some variation of it for the next version.

What about 2 ASR’s moving in opposite directions and then added together?

or you could just use a teletype! then you could also control the amount of crosstalk. it’d be like a chance based matrix mixer for triggers (trigger 1 is sent to output 1 100% of the time, to output 2 50% of the time etc etc)

sorry.
could not resist.

been pretty quiet around here, hasn’t it…

coming soon: a special edition of orca for just friends. connect the 2 via i2c and you can have orca polyphonically sequencing just friends, which is not possible otherwise (unless you involve teletype and txi):

this will require a powered i2c board or the upcoming @bpcmusic’s TXb. no other changes are planned other than a couple of small fixes. hoping to post the new firmware sometime next week.

Wow! Will you port this functionality to ansible?

eventually, yes. but not sure yet whether it will be this version first or only the future orca 3 version.

Quick question- will this version have the same functionality as the original, as in, will it support the presets etc.? Also, this is super amazing.

yeah, it’s exactly the same, the only difference is being able to control just friends (i also need to test something that will hopefully allow to just have one version and make it switchable between regular and just friends version, will require a reboot but will keep presets).

when in just friends mode you won’t be able to use it with teletype however (since it’ll function as i2c leader).

That’s incredible. Thank you for keeping this module alive and breathing!!

i definitely have more plans for white whale (and i still think the original firmware is under appreciated, it’s a great sequencer)

Awesome awesome awesome. It’s still one of the few sequencers I know in which you can easily set up patches in just/ pythagorean intonation- and it’s very fun to use in general.

I love white whale. But am not a big fan of how the pitch assignment functions;it’s is implemented. Even after years of using white whale, I find it confusing, and in effect use WW mainly as trigger sequencer. Which is a shame. Would love to see that re-considered…

it’s the challenge of finding a way to edit 16 pitches in 4 grid rows… i do prefer the way it’s done in orca, but obviously i’m biased. on the original white whale i usually use the cv map option as it’s easier to remember.

Still one of my favourite sequences. Miss it so much since I’ve moved to ansible. Can’t wait for it to be ported/re imagined.

next update of orca will run on any of the trilogy modules - white whale / earthsea / meadowphysics and ansible. lack of cv/gate outputs will not be an issue as it will be able to control just friends / telexo (and possibly er-301) via i2c.

like this: meadowphysics + txo = 4 sequenced voices in 10hp

Instagram post mentioned running on Ansible too?!?! Is there space for it to run alongside Kria/Meadow/Earthsea or will it be a singular firmware?

this would be great to know. thx!
