Yeah, this happened to me from the first download over a week or so now.

Fixed it in version #122

@beforeitwascool @corpusjonsey @nahfeld @atomboyd I think I’ve managed to fix this! Let me know if you’re still getting weird slowdowns when the window becomes inactive. Also, this should have made the overall timing a lot tighter.

Tips on staying up to date

  • If you’re building from the repo, perfect, just pull the latest changes as they happen.
  • If you’re using the itchio client, amazing, you’re doing it right.
  • If you’re downloading new 40mb .zip files every time you want to update, and are thinking about using Orca for a while. Please consider moving to the itchio client, it’ll manage updates for you and will only download the diffs, usually around 30kb~. Reduce bandwidth waste, save actual Orcas.

@electret Could you capitalize the thread so it looks like:

Orca — Livecoding Tool

Thank you :tea:

This just in… Patchstorage!

https://patchstorage.com/platform/orca/ is now up and Orca is a new platform there. If you use patchstorage, please upload your patches to share!

This just got setup a day or so ago, so there’s only a couple example/demo patches listed now. Also orca is not showing up in the main platform list yet, but that might be because it needs some more patches, or it’s just too new.

@beforeitwascool Ah! Amazing, I’ve been testing it as well and it seems pretty robust, I think it even improved midi clock in’s sync.

Thank you! That’s great.

Ah, great idea! Can we add evironment tagging when you upload a patch? I’ve been switching back and forth between using these combos:

Orca vs Pilot (udp)
Orca vs Estra (udp)
Norns Orca vs Timber

Just wondering if tagging for different environments may be helpful?

Working really well!

No lag or delay on window/screen swapping back and forth between Orca/Pilot/Estra, Ableton and Chrome.

Break a leg at Algomech!

Probably yeah? Esp for which output protocol it uses (midi, osc, udp)

Maybe good to include notes in the description.

Made this wallpaper with the ORCA operators embeded, I don’t actually own the bg image and would love to credit the original but can’t find it. Oh well: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1SvaRXNudlvQjUNcCxrni4zbBMz7g64-6/view?usp=sharing

(heads up, the image is absolutely massive and will lag your photo viewer, but 5k monitor owners can enjoy it too)

Ah! @Vega, you remind me that it’s way overdue for the application to have its own in-app guide. I’ve implemented one that can toggled with cmd/ctrl g  Let me know what you think, and thanks for the idea!

Awesome! thats really useful, especially that these change from version to version.

imo can a chart with all the inputs and outputs for each operator be added as a second page to that?

It would be a bit redundant to write the ports in the onscreen docs as they are already displayed when hovering an operator’s port, but I’ve added them to the repository’s docs for reference.

Made a new wallpaper, credit to the incredible art stolen for the background this time goes to Devine Lu Linvega, and the original art can be found here, on xiivv.com , anyway, here’s the quick and dirty edit with added detail ripped right off the repo page: Wallpaper

Also, while I’m here there’s a few other blatent copyright violations of mine here which includes a clone-ish of https://wiki.xxiivv.com/#motto

also, since we’re all using their tools, I recommend checking out all of the tools at xxiivv.com, including ORCΛ ( https://wiki.xxiivv.com/#orca )

Edit: uploaded a version that includes the original bg used in the first version but with the newer text and easier to read, as well as a color version of the new-old one to the copyright violation folder mentioned above

Has anyone else had a daydream of orca running as a teletype alt firmware?

I’m trying Orca now with the internal bus to send midi to Ableton Live. If I keep the Orca screen open the clock is right but if I step on the Ableton screen the clock slows down, is it normal?

@elia Are you on the most recent version? The update worked for me.
