Any chance you saved a screenshot? I’d love to pic the seq apart as I’m learning

I can see parts but the left side of your screen is obscured

btw cant thank you enough for this app @neauoire
it’s the perfect blend of game/code/music/interface but i still avoided it for a bit since i sometimes find math & midi confusing

the norns port made me curious enough to tackle “real” orca today and i’m equally impressed

Here you go, just bear in mind that when I made this the M operator was Modulo rather than Multiply, so it’ll have to be modified accordingly, otherwise you’re good to go. I will update the patch to address that change and share it on patchstorage.

Edit: another difference is that the MIDI CC operator has to be changed from ^ to ! (in the Perc Mod, LFO Mod and & Freq Mod sections)

random thots: is there a way to send microtonal note info over midi? i think the common way is sending the closest 12tet note and then the left over cents to pitchbend. i use orca with vcv mainly rn so its not a big deal for me to attenuate the cv out of 12tet but it would be cool for vsts and such without that ability. maybe there could be a detune field in the midi out operator that lets you add or subtract 0-Z cents?

edit: hope you dont mind all my random suggestions. i love orca so much!

@tehn Thanks!

@glia @piearesquared Remember that you can share patches here.

@echoing While there isn’t a way to do that now, I’ve seen others implement something similar by sending UDP data, over to PureData where they handled this operator’s logic.

I’ve considered implementing it officially, but it might be better kept as one of these alternative operators floating around, that didn’t quite make it in the /master. It’s not the first time it has been requested tho, maybe if enough people want it, it’ll find it’s way in. I love your suggestions btw, keep them coming :slight_smile:

Finally got it to play chords the way I wanted it to. Honestly, every hour spent learning this thing results in a dozen more of just messing around and trying stuff that wouldn’t be possible in most DAWs. Very gratifying.

You can do it in Max with coll object assigning frequency to midi notes and making own scale this way. See here:
http://sevish.com/2014/how-to-play-microtonal-scales-on-a-maxmsp-synth/ and you can tune to any scale Virtual CZ vst then straight from orca works with any daw.

When using orca to send midi notes to ableton the cursor movement affects the timing of my sequence

Is this normal? Makes me hesitant to make live adjustments to to stuff mid seq

Also I have some norns specific questions @its_your_bedtime is it better to ask here or will there be a library thread for the app?

Any chance you can tell me is copy/paste different on norns’ version of orca?

Its almost ready to be posted in library, i’ll make it soon. Cut/copy/paste is similar to desktop version, i guess

I’ll try again but shift is what lets me select a larger area on desktop

Seemed not to work with norns when i tried it

I’ve been dreaming of a two player Orca, with two keyboards into a single laptop, with two cursors, sharing the same map. I don’t know if it’s possible but there are Windows programs that allow the two keyboard, two cursor thing.

on the desktop app yes…built from the command line yesterday so whatever cloned from gh is what i have

my norns app was days old and i’m updating now

Is there a way to save/convert a desktop Orca patch such that I can open it in Norns?

@its_your_bedtime i was gunna ask for an op exactly like the “timber_param” op you implemented this morning! kudos

Its a simple op for controlling few timber params ( those can be easily extended) -

param_ids = { "quality", "amp_env_sustain", "original_freq", "detune_cents", "by_percentage", "filter_type", "filter_freq", "filter_resonance", "pan"}
