You could send OSC/UDP to a companion script that interpolates to the value with more steps.

can i do that with aioi?

Now that I think about it, it might be possible, to lerp(z operator) with multiple digits, let me ask around, I can’t seem to figure out how to do it, but there might be a way to use some clever logic to interpolate between two digits numbers.

ok cool, thanks great…

any thoughts on this?

Hi guys! lurking your posts since quite time… ORCA its an incredible tool, i’ve starting coding again thanks @neauoire

trying using ORCA with my modular setup, i’ve tried directly via midi (from sound card to a 0-coast) and also with a beatstep for having much control on gates and so on…

did somebody get experience with a similar setup?

the timing seems good even if the disply doesnt show the correct bpm, but sometimes the beatstep just freeze and crash, i’ve noticed specially when I hit play/pause many times

Ah! I’ve done a little update to the repo this week that sort of addresses that, but just to make sure:

  • What operating system do you use?
  • Do you see errors in the console? Orca > Show Inspector

im on mac os high sierra, with the new repo it works now without problem im testing now…

im not sure but I post a pic…

Woah, I should mute the send ticks console log…

Hey All! I have started using ORCA 1 month ago, and I am totally into it! I want to thank @neauoire for creating this wonderful piece of software

In fact, I got so into Orca that I hosted a workshop in my local creative coding community for people. It was a super fun experience and I hope to make another workshop using ORCA again soon.

So far I am really enjoying connecting ORCA with Max/MSP/jitter and my modular setup, it is just so easy and fun to work with, although I wish there were a better way to send fx. midi into ORCA.

looking forward to seeing where you will go from here.
I started creating a small Github repo that I use for my workshop. it’s still work in progress, and it’s just a way to explain some super basic concepts of how ORCA works. https://github.com/codeAndShareAarhus/ORCA_Code-Share_Workshop

Excellent notes!
I enjoyed seeing a screenshot of Zupiter on there.

What do you think would be an ideal way to send midifx into orca?

Thanks! I am enjoying your tutorial and it is very helpful!

The midi in operator is a total hack, it might not remain in orca for ever. The best way to do this actually would be to send the UDP command write:letter;x;y to Orca.

hmm well, I don’t know about MidiFX, I meant fx as in “for example” in my previous post I think .

However, what I meant to say was that the receive Midi ("&")-operand can only send letters, and it would be super awesome if it could receive numbers too. That also goes for OSC/UDP, I think it could be so cool if you were able to also receive numbers/letters from those protocols. Currently the only way to send messages back to Orca is via the receive midi operand.

I don’t know how one would implement it, but I really think that giving Orca more inputs would make it even more fun to work with!

Founds this excellent orca video in the wild today.

Hey @neauoire, Question re: Orca-c; I have it running on my RPi but it’s on a tiny display, and when I use shift +/- to change the resolution, it changes the grid size but not the text size… is there a way to make the font larger? My little 8-inch screen looks too squished for me to see! Hope there’s something I’m missing, and thank youuuuu!

I’m fairly certain that Orca-c uses the font & size of the terminal that you’re running it from. I’ll need to fire up my RPi to check but these instructions for changing your terminal’s font might help.

@yaw Thanks for this - I tried another display shortly after posting this and it looks like you are correct, though I’ll attempt to verify tomorrow.

EDIT: It worked! It should be noted that this changes the font size for everything that runs in Terminal, including raspi-config so after making the change, many things appeared off-screen. For anyone else doing this, I’d recommend making all system config changes first, and only changing the font size when everything is how you want it.

Update v147!

Pushed a massive update that should improve Raspberry Pi coverage.

  • Injecting patterns now require you to load the patterns before with cmd/ctrl+L. With this change you don’t risk of loading an accidentally corrupted file during your set. raise your hand if that happened to you, raises hand.

  • A whole bunch of things changed as well, some controls changed, saving/loading will not overwrite your file, it will generate a new file each time.

  • It now works directly in your browser, no need to install anything. (If you’re on Firefox, you will need to install the webMidi extension until they add it)

  • You can now use the mouse to select things, and right click to cut the selection.

  • Many more fun toys…

Enjoy

Youtube won’t let me upload right now for some reason, so here’s a demo video, on twitter.
