what i did, was watch the alleyway audio tutorial video and go on the computer version first, to get a feel of what it was capable of with a midi synth / sampler and a big screen. I initially triggered stuff from the computer version of Orca to Passersby synth to try melodies and Timber player to try rhythmic stuff via Midi In and the Sevillasoft midi dongle. At around the same time, the first Norns Orca beta became available. After i got a feel of how it worked, I went on Norns version (they are pretty much identical). Now i concentrate much more on the Norns version. And yes, all your sequences / samples are saved on Norns for recall. You can’t import computer Orca sequences to Norns Orca. I transferred stuff by hand between the 2.
These are vids of computer Orca midi out -> Passersby and Timber midi in, to try out how Orca worked initially
This is incredibly inspiring, thanks! For someone with a keyboard already connected to Teletype, does anyone use or have any recommendations for a quality keyboard switcher so that I don’t have to constantly be plugging in/out my keyboard between TT and Norns?
thinking about the possibilities with softcut - would you consider adding a softcut params op similar to timber param so that we could, for instance, target the input (softcut.level_input_cut()), panning, etc?
softcut params
timber param
softcut.level_input_cut()
just tried this and it’s amazing
first of all, one more thanks for porting orca to feed our norns!! i’m really enjoying it the first day! second, i’m having some problems trying the midi, is it working yet? wI’m just trying to control the OPZ but i’m not getting any sound Triggering it with: D4 *:33C any tip?
I just did a quick jam w/ orca (and tunnels for guitar). feels like I haven’t even scratched the surface of its potential
You have to set velocity on 4 input (might fix defaults for this)
ok… that was fast, i thought i had tried this but not… thanks a lot!
Quick feedback(haven’t really had the time to dip in properly).
I am using a Norwegian keyboard(being Norwegian and all), and the layout does not match my typed results. Any way to add keyboard localization?
Thanks!
I just bought a second-hand Norns, exactly for this reason.
I’ve already been using Orca to do live sampling/looping with Sonic Pi on my laptop
Pretty excited to see how these computer-based Orca experiments translate to Norns!
I use the monome Switch module to route my keyboard to two Teletypes. I am pretty sure it would work just as well with norns.
Fantastic! Thank you for the “entry path” suggestions: I am excited.
I think you would need to make a localized version of my keycodes.lib… or it would require a localized version of the main norns code hid_events.lua (both of which were done for a US QWERTY keyboard.)
keycodes.lib
hid_events.lua
Not familiar enough about how that kinda of keyboard localization works to know for sure what to suggest.
@its_your_bedtime Do you have loading of .orca patches implemented yet? If not, I was thinking of looking at that if I have some time later.
.orca
What’s the sixth input for softcut? Whacks everything out in a cool way, but I don’t get why or what’s happening.
There are only 5 inputs ( fifth is position )
Hmm - I’m also seeing 6 total inputs when I use the softcut op (the first one - I’m assuming playhead - gets auto-filled):
ugh, i didnt count that auto-filled one there was error in description (fixed)
Awesome - thanks for the clarification. I think noticed a couple of minor bugs — would you prefer reports here or on Github?
