ah okay, i didn’t think to go that route. thank you!

I think I’ve got a bug.

When using the midi ( : ) operator, if I enter a note length of 0, orca freezes all operations. I can still navigate, but the frames freeze and will not advance even if I remove the offending 0. Things work as expected after a system reset.

Hello

I’m still confused how to use the SoftCut Params. From my understanding \111 should exclude the Timber-Engine from the SoftCuts Playhead 1. But for some reason it is still in.
I think the key is that I’m using the bang for the SoftCut Param in the wrong way. Can someone give me a quick hint?

Marcus

The \111 still needs to be banged (*) before it will take effect. I’m away from my machine right now so I can’t check the operation but something like:

D…
*…
\111

Should get you there.

Also

D…
*\111

Not sure but I think I found a bug.
As soon as I bang\111 with an D command (or something else), Orca stops working. This happendes only with the Softcut Params
With the TimberParams everything works fine.

Can someone confirm this behaviour?

Hmm, my (DIY)norns get really slow when playing 3-4 short timber samples with orca, I haven’t got a hold of a 3 b+ RPI yet so running on a regular 3b, that might be the problem, but still, 4 sample voices and the CPU is around 30%
Seems a bit weak even for the 3b.
What performance is expected?

Loving Orca, many thanks for this :raised_hands:t2:

@its_your_bedtime Wouldn’t it be a cool to be able to input operators without using an external keyboard? Maybe by keeping a button pressed + rotating one of the encoders in order to scroll through operators. :upside_down_face:

Hello, perhaps this has been addressed but I’m messing around with Query on Fates but it doesn’t seem to behave similar to Orca on my laptop? I’m not getting any output and it appears it doesn’t offset but starts running out right of Q. Also x and y are the other way around; when feeding variables into y, it will run on the x axis…

this happens to me to

Yeah, learning to work around it. The biggest thing for me to remember is to not use iterator or bounce to modulate step length as they can return a 0 value.

I also can confirm the step hang issue trying to change softcut input. (I.e. \111) this resolves immediately after changing the second node away from 1 (i.e. \1x1 where x= any other number/parameter)

Edit: remember that these programs are a labor of love by those involved. My coding skills are minimal to nonexistent, so I’m just trying to report new things when I find them / see if others have found a good work around.

thanks for bug reports, i’ll get to fixing all of them soon!

It might be stupid question but I need to know.
Is it possible to play synth sounds using looped single cycle waveform? (using timber)
All I hear is clicking :frowning:

Maybe? I think that in the sample parameters you would need to set the sample to loop and the decay of the amplitude envelope to sufficiently long for it to ring out.

pushed an update with various bugfixes, everything should be ok now

I have just got a Fates and I am trying Orca. I have already used it in my computer and even made a few simple patches using MIDI and Pilot.
But inside Norms I couldn’t get any sound triggering samples from Timber. I succesfully loaded a folder of samples. But using the ’ operator I was not able to hear any sound, though the samples seemed to be loaded.
Can you help me? Maybe, can you share a project so I can load it and see?

Did you try restarting your norns after installing it? That can sometimes cause problems when installing new scripts.

Yes. I restarted a few times.

Okay, one of the few problems that can happen is either the playback volume in your operator can be backwards. I think that lower case z is the loudest. And try to adjust the length of the sample being played.

Finally, norns has some issues with samples, usually demanding wav files and all. If these don’t fix it, maybe send an example of how you’re filling in that operator? It is built off of a much earlier version of Orca, and the Tiber operator is slightly different than OG ORCA.

Lastly, have you tried sending out MIDI signals to test that things are running properly?
