that would be awsome if you feel like it ! github issue would be nice since I probably won’t have time to make any major changes for a while
originally the engine was supposed to be a multitimbral thing (via the terribly named Gator class) but at this point I wouldn’t mind ditching that in favor of better stability, even though it would be kinda cool if this engine could double as a simple drum machine or something. (I might just start over & paste my synth functions into PolySub, which would cover my use case for this script just fine)
@ampism there’s a section of the docs about ratios if you scroll down a bit from here Redirecting…
if you’re using pm c → b as your brightness control you can think of the top two rows as a fraction (numerator on top, denominator on bottom) that controls the character or timbre of your brightness. simple fractions like 2/1, 4/1, 3/2, 8/1 will sound more harmonic while complex fractions like 5/3, 8/7, 15/2 will sound more inharmonic or bell-like. I tend to favor simple ratios for most of my patches.
(it helps to turn down amp a & amp c while messing with these ratios so you’re only listening to one carrier osc. also, be sure to turn down every pm param except for pm c → b)
I should probably label the upper & lower grid diagrams since at this point it may well not be common knowledge that there more grid sizes !
@edison on 128 grid you can just hold down the scale key of the scale preset you’re editing. but I just realized there isn’t a way to edit the scale on 64 grids with orgnwrms oops

Great, thanks. That makes sense now!
Trying orgn with midigrid but no luck… can you guide me what lines to replace or add to the script??

Had my first play with orgn and orgnwrms last night and I can say that they are both brilliant, intuitive, deep, and super fun. It’s so easy to find great sounds and to get lovely expressive sounds out! I’m heading over to a friends this afternoon for a jam and hopefully will have a little recording to share later
I did notice 2 things while jamming related to the known performance stuff above:
- I definitely noticed the issue when going into a long transient causes and on-going performance issue (especially with polyphony)
- I noticed that the pattern recorder occasionally seems to be somewhat ‘slow’ in it’s playback of patterns. This tends to happen with faster movements and arpeggios. Is it clock quantized?
i really want to get a bleached now for this to do parameter mapping. I’ve got all the parts sitting on my bench, so I’ve got to get a PCB ordered right away!

Just wanted to echo how amazingly fun this is to play! I’ve left my norns in a drawer for a while but noticed this script and immediately had to get it out!
I’m really enjoying the loopers - so much fun! But I just wanted to make sure I haven’t overlooked something: the loops aren’t synced in any way, right?

yea it’s a bit different than other scripts because I’m using the nest library - I’m not familiar with midigrid nor do I have hardware to test but I can try and offer some guidance when I get a chance
no it’s not supposed to be quantized - I’m annoyed with this too and my guess is the same engine performance issues are to blame - - this will be my first priority to fix when I have more time to spend on this script. excited to hear what ya make !
they’re asynchronous but you can use use the overdub feature to get layers of modulation in phase with each other.
syncing the pattern punch-in/punch-out to the global clock is a feature I could potentially add but I dunno how useful that would be in this script since it’s all hand timing anyway for note input (pattern quantization like cheat codes would be a whole other beast I’m not quote prepared to / interested in tackling).

Thanks for the answer. I guess it would be simpler to have an option in settings to specify that track n is the same length as track 1 (the main track then). I really enjoy the unquantized nature of the script. But the script is so nice and simple as it is so I’d be hesitant to suggest more complexity

never thought I could get r´ck rolld by a synthesizer but here we are lmao
Took me about a minute to figure out that the demo song for the Orgn is you know what

Congratulations for this amazing script!
Waiting for my Norns to come back from the doctor like a child
looking forward to try the combo!
Much love
just gotta pile on to how great this is. I loled at @coreyr comment as I too found the pattern record by accident and it blew the whole deal wide open. this is so great at capturing the spirit of all those yamaha and casio keyboards, the pattern record especially. if only it had “one note play.” I get some stuck notes if I change settings while a note is playing, and then I have to hunt around and find that note to untrigger it, but I’d call that a feature.

would this be difficult to map to crow? would be suuuper fun

having lots of fun with this, esp orgnwrms

Whoa, thank you for this script! I’m having an amazing time transforming these sine tones into ugly beauty.

haha i’m hoping the pentatonic scale default isn’t too offputting for the noise folk - lots of zones to get into with feedback !

I’m digging heavily into the JI undertone tuning with chromatics, and whoa it’s excellent. I’m gonna try and figure how to get more than 12 notes per octave though.

yea there’s a bit of a hole in the tuning system right now as it assumes 12 tones but i’d like to expand on that. it’s more of a UI puzzle than a code one.
i’m also really not that familiar with ji, so suggestions welcome !

is that a sequencer or a controller?
The box on the right is the Livid Instruments Code Controller (now discontinued). It has 32 endless encoders and the 13 push buttons. Any controller will map to Norns scripts and ORGN in particular pretty seamlessly.

Can you describe the steps to reproduce? Is it dropping out immediately or after changing certain settings?
