Yeah that would really not be a great idea. The O_C makes sense in real life because it gives you a lot of apps in a small package and in real life HPs can be a scarce resource and modules cost hard cash.

Making a series of VCV modules based on individual apps from the O_C would actually be quite interesting though.

Hey first post, and quick (and maybe stupid) question:
what is the maximum Voltage the CV-inputs will survive? I was looking around and couldn’t really find an answer. I just built the 16n rework by AtoV, and it is able to put out +10v, and I was wondering if that would damage the O_C inputs.
Thanks

Ive been trying to look at ways to sync up my Eventide Timefactor pedal and my modular. I was messing around with captain midi and couldn’t find an option to send a clock to midi. I was trying the Captain Midi and midi out applet. Is there really no way to do this with the Ornament and Crime?

I’m thinking of picking up an ornament and crime but a bit unsure about the hardware. A few different versions about and i’m not sure if they are all equal?

Most all are equal! Just up to you whether you prefer more hp or less.

The most common significant difference is some (very few) have a Micro USB port on the front. There’s also the OCP which has the Micro USB port, and also bi-color LEDs, variable vpp settings, and attenuverters.

Just wanted to say - apropos of nothing - switching to the Hemispheres firmware is something I should have done ages ago.

Never really ‘clicked’ with my O_c but now I’ve got Hemispheres running on it, it’s so much more immediate - like a box of tools that’s right there in front of me, vorhanden. I’m aware I’ve given up a lot of the ‘good’ complexity that O_c has to offer, but 99% of the time, all I want is a basic quantiser or envelope generator!

Funny, I’m the opposite. I started with Standard firmware, switched to Hemispheres and felt I was only getting half the functionality.

Hemispheres is amazing, don’t get me wrong, it’s just I was used all the features and getting 4 of everything. With Hemispheres I could have an envelope and a sequencer. With the standard fit ware I’d have 4 envelopes, or two sequencers, and all with lots of features. All of that said I do end up digging through menus and looking at the manual a lot.

I started on Hemisphere then switched to core whereby Quadraturia became indispensable to me, so I got another o_c to use Hemisphere suite. Best of both worlds!

I must say I’m the same. I never spent enough time mastering the O_c tools. The hemesphere tools are much more straight forward and I find they don’t break my flow as easily.

100% I have two o_C myself. One is usually one of the quantizing modes and the other is envelopes, sequencers, LFOs, or Beatbytes.

I totally get where people like the immediacy of Hemispheres. Digging in menus is not inspiring sometimes. I’m always getting back to the manual. As my understanding grows it gets easier.

The trick that helps me is always saving my settings. Save your settings every time you work. The next time you turn your system on you’re back where you left off. Settings are saved with each application, so you can have your favorite default when you return to any app.

Save settings with a long press on the right encoder to get to the menu, then long press the right encoder again. You’ll see an expanding box.

I actually swapped back to O_c after initially starting with Hemispheres. I love both, but the way the O_c challenges my assumptions of what a utility should do and connects many of my modules in asynchronous ways is a real pleasure that the more simplistic hemispheres didn’t provide for me.

It can be a truly slow ramp up to being comfortable with the apps, but it really can be the glue between a couple of ongoing parallel events in my rack.

I’d love to read about/hear some examples!

Oof, I wish I had enough confidence around what I’ve been making recently share sounds (maybe I’ll try and make something up tonight…?), but I can share just two basic ideas I enjoy; one is using quartermane as slow as possible on each voice coming down the line and the final being on one of my end effects chains/mixers where everything meets. It allows for very calm movement that then intersects at the signal meeting point. I’ve found it actually helps me mix all the different signals.

The next is using the copiermachine to drive a voice and then slam effects, preferably ones with v/oct like the Morphagene and mimeophon with the delayed shift register. This is REALLY cool, because the effects pitch matches the note previous. It’s a bonkers vibe and one that can be really fun. The other is actually to have multiple voices With different wave forms (from the Teletype TXo) Through cold Mac, I then have the shift register come through on that, so each following note is a different wave form. And this ends up being fun because specific areas of the scale are going to be a specific sound. If there’s glide on the mixer signal, this is even better, since it almost becomes a pitch effected wavetable modulator, if that makes sense. Basically, I really enjoy using the Copiermachine across multiple CV signals. I hope that makes sense… those are just two ideas I’ve played with recently.

I get embarrassed with the expertise around here and how I measure up, so I hope my explanations aren’t too simple!!

That was very articulate and certainly got me thinking, thank you.

What is the process to switch from Hemispheres to Core or vice versa? I’m thinking about getting the Plum Audio 1U o_C to replace my 1U steppy, since I didn’t realize that steppy only did gate sequencing. I was leaning towards Hemisphere, since it would be easier to learn, but would I be able to easily switch back and forth if I decide I want a less simplified version?

all you have to do is unplug your module from your rack and plug in the USB cable to the port, then run the flasher software. It’s really quick and painless. maybe scary the first time but it takes me 2 minutes tops now.

the worst part is unscrewing it and screwing it back in!

This is great to know! Especially since the Plum Audio 1U version i mentioned can connect directly to the USB port on the intellijel performance case, so I don’t even think I’d have to unscrew it

I have a performance case and the Plum Audio 4Robots. The performance case has jumper connections on it but nothing like a USB port inside the case on the USB/MIDI board. The Plum Audio 4Robots has a mini USB connection, but you would have to wire up your own jumper setup in order to hook the two up. It’s not a simple plug and play solution.

I see. I must have misunderstood. Is it possible that there’s an updated version? I was looking at the below page, and it says, for 10 dollars, they will send an adapter for the USB input on intellijel cases. I took that to mean it would basically be plug and play for stuff like updates and even potentially MIDI to CV conversion?

Interesting! Yeah that wasn’t an available option when I got mine. It would seem that it is a plug and play option after all  You would need the hemispheres firmware to do MIDI to CV conversion but you wouldn’t need to remove the module from the case to do firmware updates either way. Very cool! Thanks!
