I got my Boum a few days ago and now my OTO set is complete :sunglasses:

Loving it so far at the end of my effects chain to glue everything together. I’m excited to try out the sidechain input as well.

I have the BIM/BAM/BOUM combo.

Anyone figure out a good combined power solution for the 3?

They need 15v each which you generally don’t see on pedal power supplies.

Right now I’m just stuck using the supplied power brick for each which eats up a lot of plugs when combined with the modular…

Check out CIOKS DC7 – 7 outlets at variable 9,12, 15, 18V per outlet! Current is pretty high as well, 400 at 15V. 660 at 9V. I seem to recall seeing one used with the OTO Trifecta.

EDIT: NOOOOO, OTO boxes need 500mA! Just shy.

One thing I absolutely love with BAM that wasn’t too obvious at first is the amount of range each knob has and how that varies for the different algorithms.

It’s so easy to just turn things up and make beautiful lush spaces, but for “subtle” and just lending a sense of space I really appreciate the first 25-50% of all the knobs!

Sooo good for just adding a sense of space & width without smearing the stereo mix or becoming cavernous. It’s the same reason I love erbe verb, it’s not always my go to for big lush verb but for subtleness and becoming one with the dry signal it’s hard to beat :heart:

I love my Bam and Boum, but didn’t really click with the Bim and sold it.

The other two are on everything I record and in my live setup.

The Bam is also great patches back into a channel on the mixer for feedback delays with the pre-delay knob :slight_smile:

I have all of them and love them probably a bit disproportionately to some of my other pieces of gear, haha. They all just have such nice sonic character and (to me) are classic but still quite unique. I’m sort of in the same boat about the Biscuit—I do enjoy its sound quite a bit but have used it the least. I’ve been very tempted to sell it due to what I could get for it, but similarly fear never being able to own one again. Who knows, maybe I’ll cave.

Boum is very versatile, but ironically one of its features I use most is just simple boost. I find it does an excellent job of brining out the character of a synth going into my interface. My Model D, Juno, and SH-101 really sound a lot richer and, for lack of a better word, more “awake” after passing through the Boum. Regardless of what you end up using yours for, I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. Good purchase!

I don’t have a good mobile solution, but I was similarly looking for a good home studio solution. Had some spare wood from some kitchen projects and knocked this together…

fits all three plus a little blue friend…

next step is to figure out a clean way to be able to re-patch the signal chain. some kind of patch bay or matrix mixer is the next piece I need.

how do you deal with the lack of stereo? are you just using two of the eight channels per pedal?

Yes on my version I use two mini inputs per pedal, but I see that the new version uses TRS cables so one in/out should be good for stereo.

Is the Patchulator 8000 balanced/stereo or unbalanced/mono?
It is a balanced/stereo patchbay, meaning that all jacks and the mini patch cables are TRS. You can certainly use it to patch mono signals, which is the most common scenario, just be sure to use mono TS 1/4-inch cables to connect to your gear. Note: Some older units are mono TS only.

Two months collaboration with French instrument maker OTO Machines as DSP algorithm designer and embedded programmer, working on an upcoming product.

I really wonder what they’ve got in the works.

Denis has shared some info on the new thing. It’s going to do bitcrushing things, will partially (but not entirely) replace the Biscuit, and seems to have a broader scope than the Biscuit.

both of those sound interesting… the harmonizer particularly. I could see that fitting along well with the nostalgic reverb feel of Bam. slightly off-topic I recently picked up a Boum and it is a beast. I haven’t had much time to spend with it yet but from my brief noodling it is really amazing at both subtle and over the top processing. I really want to get my drum kit set up again and see what it can do with live drums.

Completely agree with the BOUM. I’ve got the trio but BOUM has lived on my stereo bus since day one and like you said sometimes it’s subtle, sometimes it’s extreme but it’s ALWAYS on. My favourite of the lot for sure :+1:

my guess would be it’s a multi-effect box designed to take up the room that the trio don’t touch, but with a lot of focus on it’s ability to replicate the 8/12/16-bit sounds of 80’s and 90’s gear. like you say, a harmonizer, pitch-shifter, bit-crusher, digital-dust machine would fit the vibe of BAM very well.

It worries me, I’m going to want whatever the next OTO box turns out to be–haha. BIM and BAM on aux sends, and Boum on my master bus, have become permanent signal chain additions. The OTO boxes are the best sounding and most playable fx processors I’ve ever used. Lately, I’ve been recording mostly dry stereo tracks, but monitoring through some ballpark setting on the OTO chain. Then I do the final mix through the OTO chain, so I can play them and adjust on the fly.
