Just a question: don’t you have any issue with the 128 being powered by the Aleph? I get a constant hiss in the background, which is increasing as I push more buttons. Tehn provided an external power supply in order to fix it, and it worked but it does loose a bit of portability I must say…

Wow your setup just keeps getting more compact  Pretty sure a year from now you will be down to one module.

Beautiful and compact! Very jealous over here.

What’s the thing sitting behind your grid?

i do. but i rarely use aleph with my grid.

looks like a livid code. http://lividinstruments.com/hardware_code.php

i’ve seen these going at a pretty steep discount on ebay recently and was thinking about picking one up

Ah, thanks. It’s pretty sweet - though, I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on one of those new Four-Ns.

Yes, tambouri is right, it’s a livid code. The apps designed by stretta are particularly appealing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yB3prQpmZ2Q

yea the 4-ns look rad, and i’d love to learn a bit more about making my own things.

Additionally the compactness of both concept and footprint of something like tehn’s controller in this vid is inspiring.

My dilemma is I already have a few cheap knob controllers I never use. I dunno, I love the idea of this kind of stuff, but so often just wind up mousing everything. Or when i perform i just map a few things across the aux a-c of an apc20 and call it a day.

wow!!! very nice work

What knob controllers do you have? I’m definitely in need of one, but I’m all for minimal design and size. Actually, in all honesty, I’d be happy with something like tehn’s controller in that video, maybe slightly more knobs though.

I’d also love a mod-equivalent of Ableton’s Operator, because I adore that thing, and I’d love to be less hands-on-computer and more hands-on.

@wilsonimsorry i have a korg nano kontrol and novation launch control both of which I purchased at different points in a pinch. Both work fine, but I never find myself using them. I think my bigger issue is I have a hard time sticking to any mapping. Seems what is (or appears) successful about custom controllers is more the simplification of process or narrowing down of aspects you are going to be controlling in real-time. the same parameters could be controlled from any controller but the bigger win seems to be narrowing down the controllable parameters and then creating an interface which lays these out logically

Oh, I definitely agree. I’ve tried out all different midi-controllers and never got much use out of them. That is, until getting the grid. I think the sheer flexibility of custom/open-source devices means you have almost unlimited freedom in how you use your controllers. It gets you thinking in a different way.

I’m opening the This Could Be Beautiful festival the day after tomorrow. Had so much fun messing with bass sounds on the synth when I should have been practicing.
