My studio

Very wow. In all seriousness though, I don’t think I could be productive with that many things and choices surrounding me. It makes me feel a little discombobulated and sweaty just looking and thinking.

Yes, i do get some kind of vertigo if i have not been in the studio for some time. In fact being honest, after a 8 month break, i had to relearn a lot of the functions of my modules. On the other side of things, this is a on going weakness i had for the last 20 years. Priorities change when you get married, have kids etc, but the brain of the studio is the modular. I mainly use ableton as a tape recorder and to keep everything in time trough expert sleepers soft / hardware, it has surely been a long process, but i can do one take recordings that dont need much post editing or arranging after im satisfied with the results. It does feel like one instrument. It actually feels like playing in a one man solo band…but sometimes its easy to just say i had enough and go home. Lost of ideas come and go, and probably not the best are taped, but who gives a shite, i do this for fun and freaking love it. My raving years are long gone. But i still feel like a kiddo with a new skateboard. There goes my rant, peace

First image is a grainy shot of me at a table at a synth meet where locals can gather and connect with other synth/modular enthusiasts. Second photo is a little travel kit i made

another synth meet - this was the seattle synth meet and petting zoo. i demo’d orca, a lot of folks commented on how beautiful the grid and arc are, and many questions about teletype as well.

matrixsynth posted a bunch of pictures from the event as well including some great close ups of teletype: http://www.matrixsynth.com/2016/01/seattle-synth-meet-2016-pics.html

The beauty of the grids / arcs under its most impossible form: Even with a dozen of it, it still SOMEHOW looks minimalist.

Playing music on that thing, or day trading?

Edit:

I think this is what you call a “power user”…

mind blown.

haha, each device has its own story… got the 40hse as my first ever grid. then somehow managed to lose it for 4 years! was so destroyed over missing my first ever model that i tracked down another one, not easy to do as only 16 were made and in different color combinations. but managed to find one, and then kind of immediately after, the one i lost turned up. that’s a whole other story, involving a few transcontinental flights. as i had been using it on tour, totally blew my mind that it disappeared, thought it had been stolen.

the old skool 256 and 64 were from another tour with a set design that was all orange. so when the new grids came out with different colored led’s i put the tour hardware on ice, locking them to that production. the newer 256 was my personal go to grid until the new slimline 128’s came out. now its so easy to throw the 128 in a backpack laptop sleeve. i got the newest 64 from tehn after performing in his barn and the greyscale 64 is from a german show that spanned 4 years of performances. the greyscale 128 is for another project that didn’t tour hardly at all.

bought a push button arc2 when they first came out, totally loved it. only used it for tml basically, part of a solo concert program mostly at chamber music festivals. then wanted an arc4 to control group volume levels in mlrv and also edw so found a used 2nd gen. but then loved edw so much that i really wanted the push button functionality for that program. will for sure get rid of the 2nd gen arc when the new arcs come out later on.

love my aleph and tetrafol as well!
