I prefer the first one as a picture, tbh. The second set have more nerd, though, which is good.

Totally agree.

BACKGROUND INFO:
Our crappy printer broke, and i was just about to throw it away, when i thought that the scanner still worked. So instead of tossing, i should try and use it in some unusual way. So I decided to try and scan things that could not be put ON the scanner, by putting the scanner on them.
I got an extension cord and dragged the scanner to my back yard. And was surprisd at the weird imagery it captured, and the amazing quality.
Here is one that I really liked. A brick with some stuff growing out and around it. The strange discolorations and washes on the edges are caused by the daylight seeping in…
I know it’s not a “gear picture” but just wanted to give a better representation to these scanner experiments.

There are a number of people using scanners for photography. Many different approaches, from re-housing the guts of a scanner in a more camera like body, to using a scanner as a digital back for a large format camera.

I have this recollection of one such scanner camera being used for slit scan photography resulting in very weird distortions of moving subjects. I can find many similar pages but my Google fu is failing to recall the specific one I remember…

Love this kind of thing. Tempting to get an older used scanner just to play around.

I had such a recollection, couldn’t find it for the longest time, then found it here, at Matthias Wandel’s really cool site. Was this the one you’re remembering?

@markeats yes! That was the one. @bens that site is great for showing some ideas for how to do the necessary mods, very cool.

cable conversion plus power?
[/quote]somewhat

uši is just a stereo electret mic and the only thing i have that natively supports the 5v it feeds on is a minidisc recorder

used it sparingly…it’s seemed a waste to let it collect dust so decided to order the 5v-48v adapters (3.5mm-XLR) … my other shipment is for three passive EM “mics” from Jonas

these are gonna be central to some new projects (posting new audio tests in a minute)

Anyone else play sessions for pop acts? I love this kinda gig - very little to do with my own music, but oh so much fun. These are from last Thursday.
