I was actually shaking but thankfully this is a still image :stuck_out_tongue:
300+ gigs under the belt playing drums, so this was quite the rush

One of the things that scare me a lot when doing solo live work is that I have no band to hide behind for a while if I mess something up
@ludvista29 I love the colours in this photo. Do you have any videos/audio from the gig?
And while speaking about band context here is a photo of my setup from yesterdays gig with Poznan Improvisers Orchestra

Very nice pic! And yes, it was quite interesting being all alone and in such a revealing situation like that. Was a huge step for myself to make it through the set. Yes, my friend David takes some very nice pics, the venue had great lighting as well!! There’s some instagram clips floating around but nothing substantial. Was going to set up my camera but was way too focused on getting my oscillators in tune and what not.

hi @loma! sorry for not replying sooner but somehow this just got lost…

this show was not intended to be for an audience listening through headphones. I made a small tour here in Portugal and this gig just showed up. I had never done anything like this so I said: yes, let’s do it!

the people who promote the show had all the equipment. all the headphones were coming out of an headphone amplifier to each person in the audience. that amplifier was receiving the main mix I usually send to the sound engineer.
the audience does not have volume control on their headphones, this was a choice of the production team. I asked why and they said “we choose a confortable volume for everyone, it’s more simple”. I think it would be nice that the audience could have a personal volume control, but I understand the logistic problem in doing so.

from my experience, it was amazing! I would like to do it again but with a set, especially composed for that purpose. one thing I notice was that every movement, note, control had to be played in a very delicate way. but maybe that’s because of the kind of music I play

it was the most immersive show I’ve ever played and I really enjoyed it. I have to say that my set does not have any acoustic instrument that requires a microphone, so no direct sound in the room. oh, there were around 15 people in the audience.

hope it helps!

That does help, @sno! And thank you for such a detailed response. You definitely confirmed some of my suspicions, particularly about the importance of having a prepared set for such a performance.

I’m ambivalent as well about whether it’s better to give volume control to the audience. Regardless, the whole idea seems great, and as you suggested, perfectly immersive.

Thanks again for your response.

First time listening to my music on vinyl. Quite an emotional moment.

Coco & a downsized set of my favourite modules. I think this will make it easier for them to become friends - previously with a full 7u of eurorack it was just a bit much!

looking good, especially if you set it up like this

I’ve been using mainly a shared system for awhile now but am slowly making my way into Monome/Mannequins territory. I put the modular away and decided to make this little minimal set up to learn the monome stuff until more of my Mannequins modules arrive.

The idea is to have minimal input (just the Model D) as sample/playing material and let the Norns/Grid do the talking. I’m using 2 Strymon tape delays to help me get more of a “lo-fi” vibe as I often work with Norns scripts as if they were some kind of tape loop library!

glad to help in some way @loma

I think a prepared set is really important, but there is no harm in doing a normal set this way. for me it was just an eye opening for a new way of presenting live music! I would love to do shows this way more often.

If you have a sound engineer, like they had, I think the volume control is not that necessary because he can do small adjustments if someone in the audience desires, other wise it might be important to give volume control to the audience. in my opinion.

That was the idea, and it works really well! I can pretty much treat coco as another row of (very quirky) modular if I want to, rather than a completely separate thing. I have this setup at arm/eye height when seated so the ergonomics are quite nice.

Finally hung some of my art and am generally settling into my little corner and am quite happy with it.

I like it! In the first half-second I thought “are those Kandinskys?” I don’t know if it makes sense, but to me they have a similar quality of looking the way music sounds.

you flatter me. I make them with music blasting into my ears - usually techno or stoner metal, so it totally makes sense. I do wish i could afford a kandinsky or three though!
