this is my setup + a loaded ipad and an incoming ae modular system
because of my illness it has to be lightweight and close to my chair
also bang for your buck is important
so i have a roland pa-250 powered mixer with spring reverb
two fixed up akai tape machines from the thrift store
one does tape echo duty via the mixer
the volca’s in a cardboard little enclosure so it can sit on the lap easy
and an avantone mixcube that will be isolated with foam
the ik multimedia uno synth
plus a zoom sampletrak st-224 still coming for sampling analog synths

Ujj, I’m on a pre-order for one here. What’s you impressions so far? I was hoping it would satisfy my itch for a Count To Five.

It’s an impressive and quirky device. The looper really is a micro-looper, so it’s not going to replace a CT5. You can get longer loops at the expense of bit rate. The reverb is really nice, as is the delay. The slip effect is really cool but gets a little wonky for pitch manipulation in combination with clock changes. The clock is really brilliant and musical. My fave thing so far is to use the delay as a looper (at full feedback) and feed it externally and then use the looper to grab bits of it and manipulate those. There’s a lot of overlap obviously with norns functionality, which may lead to me parting ways with it down the road. Super fun and musical pedal though. And using in combination with norns opens it up to stereo.

You got it already, very cool. Waiting for mine at the moment. And also wanted to pair it with the Kalimba. At least in my mind, I see it as an experimental pedal to create interesting snippets with, which I then sample and arrange/layer.

Thanks for a good description. I should have mine in 2 weeks time. It’s really hard to grasp the concept of the interplay between the two channels, as they are, as I understand it, both parallel and serial? but the idea of keeping things in the looping delay and then feeding snips and zaps into the looper or stretcher sounds awesome.

Yeah, the interplay between the 2 sides is one of the things that makes it so unique. The middle toggle specifies what goes into the left (or old blood side). I believe that the right side (or drolo side) always just records whatever sound is in the pedal at that point, be it from the old blood side or input. At lease it seems like that’s how it works. Note that there is no overdubbing on the drolo side. Every time you record, you overwrite. Though you can piece together loops, you just can’t add to what’s already there. Have fun

They really make the case shine. A couple of FSR sensors turn the case into a super-playable thing. The cyclic-skew tiles are awesome as well. Lots of choices and very nicely built.

I’m trying to learn how to play the clarinet, but it’s way too difficult for me. I can’t even figure out how to find its root note.
So I patched the eurorack and took a picture of the clarinet instead.

I was briefly reunited with some old friends today:

These are the synths I did all my early compositions on. The larger unit is the Serge “paper face” prototype that was in the main studio and was used by all. Notice that it has pin jacks, not bananas.

The three 79/80 era panels in the rack were the units I did most of my compositions with Apple ][ on. Dave Wilson (of the Wilson Analog Delay in those panels) designed and built the computer/synth interface - Alas it is lost.

The pcm41 and prime time delay units are still in use!
