Sound lab with some added mods - fine tuning, midi features, S&H, portamento, osc mod. I etched the PCBs myself too, which is not something I would willingly do now, but… good learning experience.

New computer with its glowy fans. I’m spending the night (and no doubt some of tomorrow, and a sporadic trickle of forgotten utilities as need arises) making it properly mine instead of Microsoft’s.

Had a nice sun beam pass through while I was working on a patch this morning.

For your health!

I always forget that my desktop has LEDs that light up the fans as the clear side of the box is placed against a wall…

Yeah, it seems a bit funny to me that the front and top of this case – the parts of it visible from a normal angle – are a boring white steel monolith. Meanwhile the big window and lights mostly illuminate piles of dog hair under my desk and cast weird shadows on the wall behind it.

I got one of these cube cases from Thermaltake when I built my computer, mainly because I like the shape, but an added bonus turned out to be that you can swap all the panels around and put the window on either side or the top.

Love seeing all these amazing machines. I only have my Microbrute, he may not be much but his name is Gary and I love him.

(Other people name their synths, right?..)

I must admit… nope… never named a synth. My double bass is called “Bertha”, but only because my bandmates named her. As for the synths… nope.

I personally have not but thats a great idea!

My modular synth is named “Birdie.” You’re not alone.

Actually Gary is way better than “Microbrute” (Arturia’s naming choices do push us musicians to rename our synths more often than not !)

Dictaphone, called Maya and a microcassette recorder, called Jozef.

Microbrutes have a lot of personality, so it kinda feels right to name them. I haven’t named mine, but now I kind of want to.

My modular is the kind of impersonal “Synth Farm 3.0+” One of my spouse’s hobbies is raising neocaridina shrimp, so I figured, she has her shrimp farm and I have my synth farm. But when I told her that, she explained that it’s not a farm, it’s “The Shrimpire.”
