Yeah it’s kind of inverted with the knobs.
I actualy hope some will eventualy make a inverted version of stages so that every slider and button are on the bottom and jacks at the top (knobs in the middle). This way the sliders are much more reachable if you have stages in a bottom row… well i always think of cable efficiency don’t mind my rambling. Stages is a great module anyway

It would be so nice if modules would be available in two variations or with a 180 degree rotatable design (there are some modules that do support this) to allow one to have the jacks at the bottom or at the top.
I’d really like to have all the modules in my bottom row to have the jacks at the top, but the products are just not there unfortunately.

My digital and organic sound making devices. Loving the combination.

Thanks pal, it’s an honour :black_heart:

I have two organic sound making devices myself and one recently has just been moving around the house going “wcheeeeoooowcheeeeoooowcheeeoooow” and I’m thinking in my head “LFO into filter cutoff”

Would be nice if you could roll off some high end on them occasionally…

The Nagra 3 is a club I’d like to join, too.

Meet #1.

The first (of six) fully finished crotale robots I’ve been working on for the last couple of months (using @nevvkid’s automat) for a performance in November (using @tremblap’s FluCoMa tools).

It’s been fun working out all of the little attachments and OCD-ing over each bit. Learned loads about Fusion and 3d-printing during the process.

My soldering iron randomly died, so can’t finish the wiring for the rest of them, but I’ve done all of the mechanical assembly/drilling/screwing.

nice !
Did you turn the crotale by yourself ?
I would like to make a set for myself but haven’t found the 80% copper / 20% tin content bronze alloy yet.

No, I wish!

Have you made any?

I have three crotales, two I bought new, and one I managed to find used. I’d love to have more of them. It would be absolutely amazing to have ones that aren’t equal temperament (i.e. tuned to whatever note that hunk of metal ends up being).

edit:
After seeing this video a while back (of “medal crotales”) I searched on eBay for a bunch of old timey medals, but couldn’t find any.

I did try making my own cymbal many years ago (out of stainles), which was fun, but didn’t end up making something too useful.

I have a bunch of “chargers” and other cymbals/bits from a local-ish cymbal maker (Steve Hubback), including some made out of funkier materials (nickel silver, aluminium, etc…).

no, but i would have the tools to turn them. I am more thinking of having 3-4 a few cents apart. Wondering if it would be cheaper to contact a bell foundry then buying them new and then turning them a few 0.01mm smaller.

I like your design, the black and “gold”, almost like a scientific instrument…

Oooh, very interesting!

I don’t know where Steve would get his raw materials. I know he’s gotten some from bigger companies (maybe someone at Meinl(?)), and perhaps some stuff is reforged from other cymbals, but there’s a lot of 80/20 in his instruments.

I first got to know his work via the stuff he does with stainless, which is quite unique, and probably more readily available via regular metal shops.

I would definitely up for getting something if you make any for sale. I also love the idea of non-standard alloys/materials (and tunings, as mentioned already).

Thanks!
I went really over the top with it, even using sharpie on the exposed screw heads to make it fully “all black everything black”.

For part of the performance I’m going to have some aluminum foil over the crotales, for acoustic/physical “distortion”, and I even made some black foil holders with embedded magnets to make it stay put (and look cool, hehe).

I did the same in the past
There are Black-oxide steel screws (MCMasters) they come in black. As well i use a lot of black anodised aluminum profile like “makerbeam”. And for steel there is “cold steel bluing” to make it black…

However, I think I am getting off topic here…

Heh, yup.

I did order some black M3 bolts for different parts, but the screws screws, I wasn’t sure what sizes I would need for everything, so I just bought a bunch of different sizes from a local hardware store.

Now that I’m doing more fabrication-y stuff, I need to invest in a stash of hardware/materials.

A mate found a Digital System Trainer in the hard rubbish. It is Australian made in the 1970’s from 7400 series logic chips. It plays nicely with my CGS Serge.
